I use a flood light for my back yard to light up my barn. For years I used a 300Watt bulb as the lower wattage ones just didn't have enough light output to light up my barn. Then after reading the reviews on the Bulbrite KX180T4CL bulb I took a chance and tried it. I am very pleased that I did. The barn shows nicely in a clean white light with the whole back yard being lit up. Additionally as we pay $.19/KWH saving 120watts on this bulb every hour at 10 hours a night in use, that is $.228/per night or $83.22/per year in savings.

I bought this bulb and it worked well for the first couple of weeks. However, after about a month it started to darken--I suppose it gets extremely hot because unlike a regular halogen bulb which is very long, this has the light concentrated in a very small area. In turn this concentrates the heat and it will darken the glass in a short time. So that once bright bulb will become black and give off very little light. That means you will have to throw it away long before the 3000hrs they advertise, and this means any savings on electricity will go right out the window when you have to replace the bulb frequently! Until they fix this problem I would avoid this bulb.

I got the available halogen bulbs at my local building supply store, and they were all 300 watt. The circuit breaker in my floor lamp immediately trips when these high watt bulbs are placed in the lamp. I could not find the lower wattage bulbs in stores, so thank goodness for the internet.
