I used it to hold cabinet doors while routing the edge and a pattern on the face of the door, the size of this mat is more than sufficient to hold large pieces of work. As a newcomer to the hobby of woodworking I'm sad that it took me as long as it did to pick one of these up. All that time that I was holding down something while sanding it is now a thing of the past. This does an amazing job of keeping things in place when trying to work with them. Just don't let a lot of sawdust accumulate on it, or you'll loose that gripping surface you've come to rely on.
