They were what I had ordered. The packing of them left something to be desired. 9 Tubs of various dried fruit for fruit cake I had ordered were in the same box. In order to put them all in the size box they were shipped in some were laying on their sides. These tubs are not liquid proof therefore sugary juice all over the containers and box. Not a happy camper when I have to clean up someones laziness mess.

Yes, during the holidays I make fruit cake. It's my mom's recipe and is nothing whatever like the store-bought fruitcake one might get as a Christmas present. The batter is very thick and all the candied fruit and nuts must be mixed in my hand. It takes some muscle to do as more goodies get added. So, the candied cherries, including the red ones, have to be firm enough not to be crushed as they are mixed in. These taste right and work evenly into the mix.

I was making a Christmas cake in September and I couldn't find these in stores. They were great and made the cake look beautiful and festive. The cherries stood up well to being soaked in liquor for months for my cake. Tad bit more expensive than I would pay in a store, but they were very good quality.

Perhaps my expectations were wrong, but these cherries don't look, feel or taste like real cherries at all. The ingredient lists says they are, but for a second I wondered if it was really a gelatin imitation. The second ingredient is high fructose corn syrup; if you care about avoiding HFCS you probably want something else. These don't smell or taste good; I am not eating this nor feeding it to my family. I threw the entire pot to the trash.
