There's really not much else to say about this - it's an incredible deal when compared to normal retail prices for saffron. The saffron is good quality and noticeably fresh (the use-by date on mine was three years away) and it's a fraction of the usual cost. One thing I particularly liked and that isn't made clear by the description is that this product is actually five one-gram boxes and not one five-gram box, so the saffron in the boxes you haven't opened yet will stay fresh longer. Still, if you only use saffron every once in a while you'd be better off buying a smaller quantity even if you pay a little more by weight; this is a considerable amount of saffron. I cook with it regularly so it's great for me, I'm very pleased with this purchase.

Will not buy this item again. Although some reviews on Amazon said the saffron was not what they expected. I went along and bought it anyway. I usually buy saffron from Indian stores. This one is not the greatest quality pretty dull color. No smell at all. Will not buy this item ever again!!!!!

This saffron quality was really good. And it comes in affordable price. 5g is not so small. Saffron is really light weight stuff like cotton. So 5 g is really a lot.

If you need a lot of saffron or want to stock up this is a great value. Grocery stores only offer a couple pinches for $6. This is substantially more.

Since it takes over 75,000 hand picked saffron crocus flowers to get even a pound of this stuff, it is expensive. Expensive also means it is frequently faked. (Yes, saffron faking is a real thing!) The presence of the yellow stile in the saffron is a good indication that it isn't faked by being dyed making it appear to be the higher quality stuff. Another way of faking it is by supplementing with safflower as a filler. Either can be detected when you let saffron sit in warm water to extract the flavor. The water should turn bright yellow and be fragrant. If the "saffron" is dyed, or it has safflower fillers, the water will turn a murky orange-yellow.

What I received does appear to be the real deal, on the lower end of the saffron quality spectrum hence the affordable price, but the real stuff nonetheless.

A little goes a long way, in fact a pinch of about 20-25 threads crushed just a little bit and then steeped in warm water/stock/broth can easily season a paella for the whole family, even less is needed for plain saffron rice.

A fair bit of warning for those just trying saffron, for some people it tastes metallic. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the actual saffron but it is simply how the taste buds of some people react to it. The same thing happens with cilantro. Even if you're not one of the unlucky people that taste metal when using saffron it can still happen by using too much.

This single box of saffron has lasted approximately 10 family sized batches of paella and a round or two of saffron rice as a side dish, so the price is worth it. I would recommend it, and I will repurchase it in the future.

I use saffron in my paella and although only a small amount is used, you can really tell a difference in the quality of the saffron. This little box was difficult to open but aside from that, I was very happy with the amount I received for the price paid.

When I use it for cooking it doesn't give a color or taste unless I put much more than it should be.
I used the whole 5 gm in four cookings only.

I just tried this saffron in some Italian risotto and it was to delicious. All of the threads are red and very few are yellow. To the person who said they had to use almost 5 gm in a recipe, have you ever used saffron threads before? I use a small mortar and pestle to grind a "pinch" of saffron threads into a very fine powder. That's all you need in an average size recipe. If you don't have a mortar and pestle then soak the threads in a small amount of hot water for 20-30 minutes to extract the flavor. Buying this large amount of saffron is economical. After opening the plastic container, I wrap the box in aluminum foil to keep out light, place in a large mouth glass "Ball" jar and remove the air with my food vacuum machine. If stored properly, saffron should have a shelf life of 4-5 years. It may require a little more saffron if the product is older, but it really doesn't go bad. I am very pleased with my purchase.
