FYI to all you Kookaburra lovers the recipe has been changed and the new style is not a good one. The texture is gross as well as the flavor has been changed. They lost a loyal customer and I assume will lose a lot more as well with this change.

I am a *huge* fan of the Kookaburra black licorice I used to buy in stores before it all disappeared (why?!). Unable to find an equivalent, I looked online and came across this offering on Amazon. I don't know how this licorice can bear the same label as it tastes *nothing* like the product I purchased for so many years in stores. You can even feel the difference. These seem like they're made of 90% plastic with some mild licorice flavoring. Terrible. Avoid.

I was fairly disappointed in this product. It has more ingredients in it than I expected for the high price. Not exactly what you expect when purchasing quality licorice. This has the fake flavor of licorice you can get at Wal-Mart or anywhere for that matter. Disappointed.

I am a black licorice connoisseur, eating at least a pound of licorice a week. I have tried about every brand out there (dozens). This is some of the best. Following are the reasons it ties for 1st place in my book:
1. Rich, strong, robust licorice flavor.
2. The perfect balance between sweet & salty. Cheaper licorice is too sweet., and not the least bit salty. You need a little of both.
3. Texture. Nicely firm, chewy, but not gummy.
Like I said, it ties for first place. Finnish by Halva is similar, but 4 times the price.

One word - YUM! Ignore the older posts which say that this product doesn't taste good. The issue has, evidently, been dealt with. I have loved licorice ever since childhood - a looooooong time ago! I hate the hard stuff - tough to chew and doesn't taste nearly as good. This has no chemical additives, no HFCS, or other nasties. Just really great taste. I do home care and two of my clients like licorice - they both love it as well, as I have shared with them.

Double Yuck! I have loved licorice over my lifetime (since I was a kid at age 8 or 9 some 62 years ago!) when I had my first licorice "bar" that pulled apart in edible, bite size 1 inch by 6 inch strips. I don't remember the name, but I really liked it from the beginning (the word "love" should be reserved for living things, in my opinion) and I have continued to enjoy it over the years when I found one that I liked, although not an easy hunt. However, the evolution of licorice has not been toward a better tasting or more appealing product. Quite the contrary, unfortunately. The best that I have discovered so far is "RJ's Black Soft Natural Eating Licorice, 10.6-Ounce Bags" that is also available on AMAZON. As far as this Kookaburra Australian Black Licorice is concerned, I think that the prior negative reviews are spot on: this taste and feels in my mouth like licorice flavored plastic! Not good! It appears that several folks who should know - long time consumers of Kookaburra licorice - share my opinion. I will stick with RJ's, thank you.

If yoiu like licorice, this is for you. It has great flavor and consistency. Most of what you purchase as "licorice" in stores is not, using various flavorings to approximate the taste of the real thing. This product is the real thing. I strongly recommend it.

This is some good licorice. The only problem I have with it is it is a little sticky. My hands need to be washed after eating. Twizzlers don't do this to my fingers, yet twizzlers aren't as good. To be honest, I may stick to twizzlers because I can buy them locally, but I would buy these as a treat every once and a while.
