Great value with plenty of backbone to pull in the 35lb+ monsters.

Decoding Model number:

LC-<(S)pinning/(C)asting>-<(Length)(Number of pieces)-1

Examples:
LC-C-902H-1 -- 9ft Casting 2 piece, Heavy Power
LC-S-1202H-1 -- 12ft Spining 2piece Heavy Power

Any model with a "C" in it is a casting model.

My only complaint is the reel seat on the casting models is huge. Looks like they used a spinning reel seats. This requires you to tighten down the reel seat almost to the breaking point to keep the reel from flexing when retrieving. Had this problem with the medium sized Abu's.

I own a few salt water Okuma products and they are all inexpensive and very tough. This rod is no exception. I have the 11' model with 50# braid on a good sized reel for flinging bait and 2oz+ lures and I love it. The slimmer Cork tape handle is great, rods not heavy for size and is well balanced. I handled some nice size fluke and stripers with no problem. It has a nice fast action to it and the price on here beats retail which is always a good thing. Only negative is the shipping package its pitiful. My first rod arrived with a broken eye in a crushed box, My replacement arrived very fast but only by luck was it not ruined. There was a total lack of packing material or support in the box to protect the item. All it would take to fix is a cardboard shipping tube or at least more then one piece of stuffing in the box.

I use surf rods for bank fishing trophy catfish. I've paired it with a Penn 750 Slammer spooled with 80 lb. braid. This rod easily chunks my large baits and 4-6oz. weights out where the big ones lurk. Broke this rod in hauling in a 35 lber amongst standing timber and it performed like a champ.

I've also owned a 12-footer paired with an Okuma Epixor 80 for about a year and never had a problem with it. The guides, reel seat, and cork handle have all held up well through the use/abuse I've put it through. Very satisfied.

Finally an inexpensive 12 ft. surf rod that casts great and has the backbone to bring in the big ones. I have tried some other rods in this price range and they either were too whippy to cast well or they exploded from the stress of the cast. I would say that these rods are well worth the money and then some. Getting out to where you need to fish is now an easy task and I can really say that I am quite pleased with the 12 ft rods that I purchased.

I bought the 8 foot model for river fishing, and the first thing I noticed was how light the rod was. I was worried that with such a large rod, and it being a 'surf' rod that it would be a big, heavy rod. Thankfully, it was not. It has a very strong spine, while still having a nice whip to it.
Another nice feature is how big, or small of a reel this rod can take. The tightener has the ability to open from very wide to very small, allowing you to use both big and small reels with this rod. Also, the way the two pieces fit together is very tight, yet easy to remove.
Overall, for the price, you are getting a very nice, and well made rod. I would recommend this to anyone; just realize how large the sizes are. If you are looking for a large pole, this is a great one to get.

Being pleased with several Okuma reels I own (they give you a lot of reel for the money), I decided to give one of their rods a try. I can't say much about the rods feels or how it performs because it broke on the third cast on the first day out with it. Fishing in light surf with a bottom rig well within the rods design specifications it snapped immediately below the third guide down from the rod's tip. The cross-section at the break appeared somewhat flatten, as if the blank had been crushed during guide wrapping or the blank was defective. In any event, I will not buy another Okuma rod.

I bought this rod for my mid sized spinning reel to use as a surf rod. I wanted a heavy action rod to cast 4-6 OZ sized sinkers plus bait on 30-lb braid line and this rod has the action I wanted - it has the muscle to get the sinker and bait out past the breakers. This rod was listed as used, but when it arrived it had all the tags, bar code, warranty card etc like new and its finish was flawless. I have built many fly rods over the years so I'm familure with rod blanks, guides, reel seats and handles prices and I can't build rods better or cheaper than this Okuma.

My buddy and I both picked up 10' surf rods to use at the NC coast a few months ago. He picked up a Shakespeare Ugly Stik, and I picked up this Okuma rod. They were about the same price. The Okuma rod is definitely weighted better (I have a ABF65 as the reel) than the Shakespeare Ugly Stik (Penn Sargus 6xxx reel on that one). Casting took a bit getting used to, since muscle memory was programmed for mostly heavier fiberglass rods, or shorter graphite rods. It was a bad day to fish, but the Okuma combo I put together was comfortable to hold, and easy enough to cast out.
