We recently adopted a small-breed dog and needed to keep him out of the part of the house where our elderly cats spend most of their time. The area we needed to block off is 44" across, and all of the standard baby gates we've found (including one we already own) only span up to 42".

Since we're hoping the need to block the dog is temporary (once he learns not to chase everything) we didn't want something that we had to mount to the wall. This gate has been perfect. It's placed on tile and though he's bumped into it when chasing a toy or a ball, it stays put. The height is also convenient since it's placed in a high traffic area. We chose the walnut finish and it's very pretty, and goes well with the other dark wood in our home.

We decided to screw the feet into the unit so we can easily pick the whole thing up to move it out of the way, and I was able to screw them in with just a screwdriver (no pilot holes are provided). For some reason it doesn't say in the item description, but as I said we've got it blocking our 44" opening, and it could easily extend another six inches before needing an expansion.

The legs are moveable and do not permanently attach unless you do it with glue or screws not included. That is the negative that causes this gate to lose a star. Otherwise, it is attractive and pretty sturdy, and easy to step over.

Amazon has been wonderful with this product for us. It is not a very sturdy product for the amount we paid. It is an attractive wood tone but unfortunately is easily broken. the legs don't stay on with the screws provided. We had to use longer ones. the hardware that came with the gate was incorrect and ended up splitting the wood. had to get a new gate and new hardware. the rungs were not sturdy either. one broke when my dog ran into it. and he is a puppy about 8 pounds. It isn't worth trying to return again because it really isn't Amazon's fault. We just duct taped them up and moved on. Buyer beware not for an active household!
