Tried the C-10 on my new Fluval Spec 3 (2.6 gals). It fits perfectly in the pump compartment. Unfortunately it was unable to heat the tank above 72 degrees. It's winter and my ambient room temp is 60-65 degrees. The C-10 can't handle keeping the temp high enough because my room is cool. Instructions state:

"This heater was designed to reach and maintain the set temperature of 26ºC (78ºF), provided that the maximum difference between the ambient and set temperature is less than 5ºC (9ºF). Variables such as lower room temperature, wide temperature fluctuations, lack of an aquarium cover, presence of pumps and filters or aquarium placement in proximity to cooling sources may require a higher wattage for proper control for the given tank size."

So I bought a 25 watt heater for the tank and use the C-10 to pre-heat 1 gallon water jugs for water changes. This heater works better for 2 gallons and below. It works great heating the 1 gallon jugs. Just didn't have enough power for the 2.6 in cool climate conditions.

The Good: Simple to use, plug and play, small compact design will fit in most bowls and small aquariums.

The Bad: Fixed temp. Limited heating capacity. Wouldnt use beyond 2 gallons if your ambient room temps are below 70.

I finally moved our betta fish to a Fluval Spec Aquarium, which has a super filtration system for a 2-gallon pico and nice LED lights. Quite an upgrade from a Mason jar! I then bought this compact heater which fits very nicely in the same compartment as the pump in the Spec. It warmed up the water to a perfect 78 deg. F. and my betta is swimming more actively and looks much happier. He was probably too cold in the jar. I have no complaints about this heater--it's very compact and does the job it's supposed to. Since this is only 10 watts I wouldn't use for anything larger than the Spec tank. On our Fluval Chi tank we have a Fluval 25 watt heater, which is working very well.

I bought the Marina C25 compact heater about 2 weeks ago. I was worried about purchasing this because of the bad reviews, but I decided to go for it because it was on sale at my local fish store. This heater looks EXACTLY like the Fluval Compact Heater 25watt. The heater is thin, and not at all bulky like it is made to appear in the photo. This heats my Fluval Edge 6 Gallon perfectly! The temperature is a constant 76-78 degrees. I had to remove my thermometer just to make sure it was working (it was) because I never saw fluctuations in temperature.

The directions do say that you should submerge the heater into the tank and leave in there (unplugged) for about 10 min. I left it in for an hour before plugging it in. I was worried about fully submersing the entire thing into the water (even the part where the cord comes into the heater), but IT IS OK to do that. I had to research it on a different site to make sure I wasn't going to get electrocuted. The heater needs to be underwater at all times. This heater is awesome, and I definitely recommend this product.

Reall happy with this purchase. I have a small, 3 gallon acrylic tank and had been using the under-gravel heaters in the past. I didn't like the sight of the electric cord up the back of the tank, even mostly hidden by plants - just looked shabby. The last under-gravel heater died, which I discovered when my betta became very lethargic - I hadn't checked the thermometer on the side of the tank for a while - he was cold! I purchased this heater and installed it in the back corner of the tank, next to the intake valve - looks good and blends in - neat and tidy. It's winter, and my house fluxuates between 63 at night to 67-68 during the day. The heater maintains the temp at 76, without fail. Happy with my purchase, and hope it lasts a while. Highly recommend for a small tank. Sounds like there may be some quality control issues since several folks have noted that their heater wasn't heating adequately. Call or 'live chat' with Amazon folks - they will quickly replace or refund for items that don't work like they're supposed to!

I have used this heater in 2 tanks now, 1 1.6 gallon and now its in a 2 gallon rimless shrimp tank. Keeps the water 72-78 without fail. No you can't adjust the temperature, but for 98% of freshwater fish it is the correct temp anyway. The light only comes on when its heating. No light, no Heating. It does NOT mean that its broken if the light doesn't come on. Check your tank temperature before complaining about it. I can almost guarantee you that your tank is in that sweet spot it should be.

I would definitely buy another without hesitation.

This heater would not even turn on in my 75 degree 1.5 gallon tank. I was not sure if it was defective or not so I did a simple experiment. I placed the unit in 1L of 60 degree water with 2 thermometers to ensure accuracy. It did indeed turn on and within about 30 minutes it heated the water to 74 degrees... Then it shut off. I cooled the water back down a few degrees, and it heated it back up to 74.
Conclusion: the internal thermostat is set at 74; not the 77 degrees advertised.
74 is too cold for my fish.
