This tank is beautiful and in my opinion, enough space for a betta. I've owned bettas most my life, have 5 five bettas currently, and all but one of them are in 2.5 and 2 gallon tanks (fluval specs). These bettas stay in the front of the aquarium and rarely explore their bigger tanks. For my fifth and sixth betta, I decided to buy the cubus, and I noticed that they are more active and love to swim around the cube.

However, unfortunately, my sixth betta passed away today because he jumped out of the center opening of the cubus. Just want to forewarn everyone that you should keep the water level lower than an inch because your betta might be one of the more active ones and jump. In that case, the tank will look a lot smaller, but it could possibly save your betta's life. I found him too late and am extremely sad and feel so terrible. I just hope that no other bettas and owners have to go through this.

**Update: Instead of lowering the water level by more than an inch, I bought some mesh needlepoint sheets for $0.59 each at a craft store. I cut these to fit on top of the circular opening of the cubus so my betta can't jump out but can still breathe through the mesh holes. I bought 2 more cubuses for 2 bettas I have on the way. These tanks are great and easy for cleaning because they fit under a standard sink in the bathroom. Much easier than dealing with huge tanks in the tub!

***ANOTHER UPDATE (8/17/15):
Unfortunately, another one of my bettas died because he jumped out through the small rectangle opening on the lid. I had the circular opening on the lid covered with the mesh needlepoint cover (as I mentioned in my previous update), but I left the smaller rectangular opening uncovered thinking a betta couldn't possibly jump out that opening.

If the light had an on-off switch it would be 5 stars.

This is a well made 5 panel glass cube that holds water has a small LED light fixture made to fit onto it and a clear plastic lid. That's all it is and overall it is well made and very attractive.

I wish the lid did not have the unnecessary "breathing hole" though some make use of it with a tall plant/bamboo, and of course the lack of a switch on the light fixture is a glaring oversight.
At slightly under a gallon it's rather small to use as a permanent Betta tank, but it can be if you are willing to maintain it and figure out a way to heat it when needed. Judging from the reviews and some of the photos submitted many people are willing to do just that, and very creatively. There are many other attractive uses for these a quick check of YouTube and various forums attests to that.

I usually get a surprise free young betta or two whenever I order any so the small size and visibility will make it a very nice "am I keeping this one or not" tank, as well as an excellent tank for photographing Bettas.

A very pretty little tank.
*Ultimately I made this into a planted dwarf shrimp tank that sits next to me. I replaced the light with a brighter one from a Fluval spec tank, I use a Marina 8 watt betta heater attached to a dimmer switch, and an airline with sponge on the end for gentle circulation. The plants grow rapidly and need thinning weekly, I do 30%-50% water changes a couple times a week by drawing water and detritus from between and under the thin layer of substrate with a coral feeder then dripping new back in. Tiny ecosystems are sometimes tricky but can be very pretty and rewarding.

While other reviews have center mainly on the lack of space, size, etc of the Cubus, my case has been the reverse. I began with a larger tank for a double half-moon Betta male. His fins suffered continuously to the point that he stopped moving from the leaf and heater at the surface of the tank. He would just rest on them. He stopped swimming at all and began to look ragged. I had treated him for fungus, bacterial issues, and others thinking that was the cause of his fin state. No response.

I decided to get the Cubus because of it's gallon capacity and flat sides for easy visibility for him. A change was immediate! He would swim around, dive from the top to the bottom, actually rest at the bottom, and even make bubble nests. It seems that the tank preference would honestly amount to what the personality of the fish is. My boy is full finned and alert in this one and I can't be happier because of that.

I did opt not to use the LED light for the harshness it emitted. Instead I used that rectangle gap to act as an outlet line for his heater.

I bought this tank for a small female betta, this tank is a good size tank for a small female IF YOU DO REGULAR WATER CHANGES. The only thing I dislike about this tank is the light, but its easy to trade it out for a better light (Zitrades 2w touchable light fits perfectly). I would recommend this tank to anyone willing to REGULARLY clean the tank and put fresh & treated water in for their SMALL betta, but I would not recommend this tank for someone looking to "set it and forget it" when it comes to fish keeping as it does not have a filter and ammonia will build up fast.

The tank is very well built, clean lines, and looks modern and nice. I would buy it again.
