This was enough to do my entire hatch for a 2003 Eclipse GTS, and a little bit more. It works, but i found at Lowes there is a product called Peel and Seal, which is a roofing material. Peel and Seal has the exact same texture, feel, adhesive, and probably even taste as this product, for the same price, but an extra 2 square feet or so. I would recommend this product for the fact that you get a roller with it, but it's not necessary for installation. Either way you'll get the same exact product, but Peel and Seal doesnt need to be shipped.

I bought a 100' roll. First of all the most important thing to realize is that fatmat is a good product FOR THE MONEY. however if you buy it your only buying it to save money NOT to get the best product. You get what you pay for!
with that in mind its actually a great product for the floor, most of its big flaws are eliminated if you reserve its use for just that. The 2 big complaints in the forums that i agree with are this #1- it smells to high heaven, even after 2 weeks of airing out outside of the car i still needed to air it our for another week once i heated in during install. if you cannot put a car cover on it or park in shade and live in a hot area DO NOT BUY!!!
#2- when it gets hot and over time it falls off of vertical surfaces.

it is NOT as good a product from a quiet perspective as dynamat or stinger roadkill but then you will pay 2-3 times this for them. it is MUCH thinner, smells and it harder to install. However it is actually a decent product for the application i chose it for. i am putting stinger carpet pad down on the floor and wanted vibration dampening below the carpet. FAT MAT works great for that application i would also use it as an inexpensive way to sound treat the floor as i feel it would make a big difference in that aspect.

So buy it for horizontal and then buy a bulk pack of stinger for the doors and quarters and trunk lid.

I had always been a Dynamat guy, but thought I'd try this. I figured, worst comes to worst I'd have some additional dampening in my trunk underneath the Dynamat, but I was dead wrong. This stuff is great. I couldn't believe how well it worked. I had planned to do the inside of the trunk, trunk lid, my front doors where the speakers are, the rear deck, and possibly the back of the rear seats but I only needed it for the trunk and the doors. I don't have any rattling from trunk, even with 2 10" Alpine Type R's in a ported box with 1,100 watts. I used to have rattling in my passenger side door but it's completely gone now. I haven had almost an entire 5th piece of mat to use, after I did everything I wanted.

I'm really pleased, and wouldn't consider anything else. I was a little worried that it would peal after a few months but almost a year later, it's all still firmly in place.

I previously had dynamat installed in my 95gt trunk(Wing rattled like hell) It worked to a certain extent but i ran out and had half results so i purchased this(year later) Now im finally about to handle this damn rattle, I will have to update after i install it but on just off observation the dynamat seem thicker so im worried a lil but as they say "You get what you pay for"..

UPDATE:::: Honestly why spend more on a product for its name this is GREAT stuff my rattle is completely gone i also updated a picture on the item description after i did the install, Im already ordering my second box to do the same to my doors after i install door speakers

Compared to Thermo-Tec 146xx/Thermo-Tec 147xx series sound deadener/insulation, this brand is not up to par. I am not going to go as far as to call this crap, but you do get what you pay for. First I'll give you my assessment, then and the end of my review I have some suggestions for its use.

FatMat is comparable to Ice-guard, the stuff you put on a roof about 2 feet before the eves under the shingles for homes in freezing climates. It is intended to melt and seal over time as the sun bakes it day after day. So over time it will make a really nice bond to your car's floor. FatMat is better than just picking up Ice-guard at your local home improvement store since it has aluminum backing, allowing it to have some insulation value.

Sound Deadening (good): It works, it's a heavy material that will deaden sound.

Insulation (not so good): It has aluminum backing which can provide some insulation. The rubber compound (asphalt) is not for high temperature situations.

Smell (bad): FatMat is asphalt based and it has a distinctive freshly paved road smell to it. More expensive sound deadener is butyl rubber based and will have a rubber smell that's not very noticeable. Searching the web you will find folks in forums who claim the smell will go away and others who claim the smell never goes away. Most likely FatMat only gives off smells over time in situations where conditions are right to make it change it's composition, aka high temperatures.

Conclusion:

Use it wisely. I plan to use FatMat in places where there will be no high temperatures so it is not susceptible to melting and giving off oders.
