I bought this Boosterlinc to supplement my old Radio Shack timer-controller that just didn't seem to be working as well as it used to. I suspect that was because of all the signal-diminishing TVs and computers I've added in the house over the years (TVs and computers serve to diminish the control signals.) I plugged the Boostelinc into the nearest electrical receptacle, but had no discernable results. Then, as per the Boosterlinc installation instructions, I moved the Boosterlinc to the receptacle nearest the house power box which resulted in good control of all modules on the same electrical circuit (i.e., same phase circuit). However, there was still no control of modules on the other (i.e., opposite phase) circuit. I tried bridging the two circuits (in the power box) with a 0.1 microfarad capacitor to achieve phase coupling (a trick suggested on some web sites), but that didn't work. So, I then bought the SIGNALINC PLUG-IN PHASE COUPLER (FOR 3-WIRE 220V DRYERS) on Amazon and now have total control of modules all over the house. So, Boosterlinc is a good product that does what it's supposed to, but depending on your circumstances you may need the phase coupler as well to achieve best results.

I used 2 of these to help bash through signal weakness and line noise on my x10 system 4 years ago. They work well. Like many x10 problem sovlvers, you'll need to experiment with them to find the best location by trying many outlets. Don't expect to walk up to the first outlet you see and plug it in and get perfect results. Start with one unit and move it around to several spots until you get good results. If you have things that work only when its in one spot, and other things that only work when its in another, you need two (or more)

To be candid, I love this device, but given the expense of this and other things I've done to keep x10 workign, I wish I would have broken down and gone insteon earlier. I'm converting to insteon now.

If you are really in love with and invested in X10 and need a little more upmf, this is what you need. It turns out that I am selling mine as I am down to two x10 thermostats and a few modules that work they way they are, everything else is going insteon.

I tried this signal booster for my X10 system and it had absolutely no effect at all. Admittedly I have a large area to cover, with lots of X10 devices, so that's possibly why it didn't work. The company (SmartHome) suggests that you should get one of these things for every 1000 sq ft. At that rate (over $100 a pop) I'd spend much more on the stupid boosters than all my X10 devices put together cost. I've had X10 devices for many years and have learned just how unreliable they are in general. Having tried and failed to finally 'fix' things with this signal booster, I'm about to give up and look for a different remote control system. I'll still give the Insteon 4827 2-stars since it may indeed work on smaller systems. Just remember to purchase it through Amazon so that in the event it proves itself unworthy, you can return it without a fuss.

X10 Signal Problems? You need one of these. This SOLVED my intermittent and just flat not working X10 signal problems. Just find an outlet (perhaps on a circuit closer to your AC panel) and plug it in! I also added a few 1626-10 FilterLinc modules on several APC UPS units (latest models). But it took a combination of the filters and this booster to get things 100% reliable.

I have a lot of Insteon and X10 in my home, and I purchased two of these since I was getting unreliable signals. I use Houselinc/Controller with these two boosters, and the system is now 100% reliable.

I installed this on an existing X10 system that I'm slowly converting to Insteon because X10 is closing its doors.

Between this and the 'Insteon line Filters' there was an immediate improvement in stability in the old X10 system.

This improvement will probably cause me to hang on to my old system longer.

Very happy with this and hope this helps you decide.

UPDATE: After a few Months my Insteon network became erratic. I was using two of the BoosterLincs and one was working fine but the LED's on the other were out (no light, nada). Removing from the wall I noticed a brown burnt area on the back that had deformed the plastic. At least it failed safely and didn't catch on fire. I'm going to see how things work without this one as I may not have needed it in the first place. Watch those flashing lights!

I've been using X10 products for years and have had intermittent problems with signal performance through my AC lines. This little device seems to work well (so far). I have paid a lot more for similar signal repeaters that have never really performed. For the money, give this one a try.

I had a couple of X-10 light switches that didn't switch reliable if I used one of the two controllers I had (one worked reliable, the other not). I already had a phase coupler installed. Looks like the booster linc solved the problem. All I had to do was plug it into an open outlet. I had to try a couple different outlets in the area of the house that had the signal issue until I found the one that worked best.
