I was meditating on the round buckwheat zafu, but wasn't comfortable after an hour or 45 minutes. My back would bother me and it was hard to find a position that would allow me to breathe (pranayama) properly.
All changed with this Cosmic Meditation Cushion. It's shape really support my tighs and the cut out in the center allows your heels to rest naturally close to your body.
I'm little 5'3 so I bought mine at the Sage website because they have 3 different sizes of lifts. I chose lowloft 4.5 inches with buckwheat filling (because I like the grounded feeling it provides).
The buckwheat container comes with a zippered opening to allow for removing the hulls to adjust height and comfort. Save the hulls in a plastic bag and they can be added back into the cushion when needed.
Now what other cushions don't have: it has a cover!
The cover is made of durable cotton twill fabric and is zippered so it can be removed for washing whithout you having to place the buckwheat somewhere else. It also has a built-in handle so the cushion can be carried with ease.
I'm very happy with this purchase!

Hmmm... how to rate a cushion? I used the cosmic cushion for a couple of years before switching to the Heavenly Bean cushion. I'm not sure how to objectively rate it since it depends on how you use it. I definitely liked it better than a round zafu. I've limited hip flexibility and can only do burmese sitting pose. This cushion is definitely better than the regular circle zafu for this sitting position, but the filling on the pointed sides would move around too much for my taste. The movement would happen while getting on or off the cushion and I'd have to do a 1-2 minute dance of adjustment to get it just right every time I started my meditation to get the right filling depth in each 'tongue'. I prefer buckwheat hull filling but maybe the experience would have been different with Kapok in this case. (Seller gives you choice between fillings and explains the difference between the two on their website). I originally bought their Heavenly Bean Zafu as a gift for a friend, but when I received it, I tried it out and loved it so much that I switched permanently to the Heavenly Bean. But really one is not necessarily better than the other as it comes down to taste and sitting position. I think the Cosmic Cushion is probably better than the Heavenly Bean for kneeling positions, which perhaps makes it more versatile, but I never kneel for meditation.

I love this seller and can't recommend them enough. Sage Meditation has a little website that I've ordered from various times. It's an informative site that answers questions on the best cushion for your needs, yada, yada, yada... Everything I've bought from them has lasted years, good quality and still going strong. The customer service is great.

Namaste to the buckwheat on my butt. This cushion sends me on a cosmic journey every time I sit on if for a meditation session. Not too hard, not too soft...just right. My meditation sessions just got so much better with this little butt cushion. It allowed me to get into a much deeper meditative state, so much in fact that I've completely forgiven my father for all his sins, my brother for picking on me when I was a kid, and for my sister...eh, never mind about my sister. OK, NAMASTE Y'ALL.

This may be a great pillow, if your problem is not what I have. My legs go numb from sitting "indian style" - and I have growing hip pain from it. THis made it worse. I also have lower back issues, and I think if this is all you have from sitting cross legged on the floor, i tmay help as it pitches you forward and up.
For me that increased the pain in my knees and in my hips from this position. I have yet to find the support that works for my issue on this.

This is a good design. My legs were getting numb using a round buckwheat zafu so I decided to give this a try and it has improved.

As a long-term meditator, I have been looking for the holy grail of cushions for a number of years. I once thought that my lower legs going to sleep was just something I had to live with, not any more. For the most part, that problem was completely solved for me with this shape of cushion. I now own three of them; one oversized, one regular sized, and the inflatable version called "mobile meditator". Any one of them would qualify as the most pain-free of meditation cushions (compared to other shapes) I have found. Good luck!

Very comfortable, but you need too remember to remove some othe husks in order to properly contore to your bottom. I of course didn't read instructions and sat very uncomfortably in meditation class until my instructor told me what to do!

Outstanding Cushion for longer meditation sessions. I recommend this for folks with difficulty sitting on the ground or even with the round cushions. I used to use the round cushions, but was (as I age) finding in more and more difficulty with my knees. This supports the knees beautifully. I highly recommend.
