This hood is more of the same quality that Zoo Med's other products routinely demonstrate. It's solid, reliable and simple. Unlike some of the others, the hood doesn't come with an annoying safety shield that would block the UVB from actually reaching your reptile. Nor does it have the finicky failure-prone tilt sensor that others have. I've had my zoo med hood + UVB bulb running on a day timer outlet for the last several months and it never flickers or fails to turn on. I bought this one after having constant problems with a couple other brands. The back has a ridge prevent it from sliding out over a terrarium. It fits a 36-inch terrarium exactly and might not sit quite perfectly if your terrarium is longer than 36 inches. Highly recommended.

Edit: I've noticed that several reviewers complain about the light not staying on. Please ensure that you've twisted the bulb in to place all the way. I've had my hood for over 3 years now on my beardie's tank and I have another for my Uromastyx. It does require a little force to snap the bulbs in place. But once they are locked (by twisting) you'll never have any trouble with them flickering off.

It was exactly what i was looking for my bearded dragons 40 gallon tank. Worked without any hassle but it does have a quirky lock. You have to turn the bulb all the way till you hear a click. The quirky part is that there is multiple clicks. The first time i plugged it in, it lit up for about 5 seconds and shut off. I read the reviews before buying and already had an idea what to expect so i checked the side of where you put the bulb and saw i could still pull the bulb out so i twisted it till i saw a piece lock it in place. i plugged it in, turned it on, and it hasn't shut off since. Also when locking the bulb in place, it requires a firm turn. It almost feels like your going to break the bulb but they're a lot more solid than you would expect.

This light is exactly what I needed for my bearded dragon. He was given to us, but only came with a night basking lamp. I got him a smaller single bulb UVB light, but I knew he needed it all over the cage and not only in his basking area. After getting this set up with a Reptisun 10.0 bulb, he's been much more active. He's eating a lot more and pooping a lot more. It only took about a day to notice the change in his mood from being "Meh" to being happy and active. I also got a 150 watt basking lamp.

Set up was easy, and installing the light was easy as well. Just make sure you rotate it until it clicks. I noticed it wasn't twisted in correctly, and it kept flickering. Once I figured it out, I haven't had any problems. Light comes on instantly and the switch conveniently located on the back of the hood. It fits my 36' long terrarium perfectly.

Initially I was very satisfied with this product. I was glad I got a cheaper price and worked great. However, this goes to show that sometimes cheaper price means cheaper quality. About 2 weeks ago (conveniently just after my date to return...)the light would not stay on! I have to either tap the light or twist it for it to stay on. Since I'm not home during the days most days it looks like I'm going to have to buy another one and spend extra money which I'm not happy about. I can't have my bearded dragon sitting without his UV light for hours on end. This time though I'm going to make sure I buy it from the store - I'm sure it'll be much more reliable!

I have had this fixture for about a month. There seems to be a short in it as it has stopped turning on unless I physically turn and hold the bulb. Then, to keep it on, I have to hold my tongue just right as I set it back down on my beardie's cage. I will be going this weekend to look for a different fixture from the local hardware store. Very disappointed in this product.

I was worried that this wouldn't work well because some of the reviews here said he bulb was hard to snap into place. I don't know if they've changed it or not, but there were no issues. Just put the bulb in place and turn until it pops into place. I've been using it a few weeks and it works perfectly.

Nine times out of ten the light doesn't turn on in the morning. It's ridiculously touchy. The contacts in the sockets must be built pretty cheap because the light only comes on if you hold it in JUST the right spot... then once you get the light on and set it on the terranium it goes off again. It got one star for looking good. If you can find anything similar made by someone else in this price range, buy it. Save yourself some money and a headache.

We've tried two different bulbs and this thing has never worked right. We've tried it hanging, resting on something the enclosure, etc. It never stays on for longer than a few minutes at a time... and we have to use tape to hold the bulb tight.
