Still not impressed with this over rated and over priced product. It is scented; it is in an eco-friendly non-aerosol bottle; it doesn't cause flaking; and, is touted as being a "starch alternative" - but it is still actually just STARCH. Unlike other starch products, Best Press does not disclose its ingredients on its bottles (or Mary Ellen Products' website) - something that should bother purchasers.

There is no secret to avoiding "flaking" - you simply spray lighter. Aerosol spray starches tend to be more condensed and used alone will often result in some white flaking. Spraying a bit of water together with your aerosol spray starch eliminates that problem.

Most quilters tend to be frugal. Using Best Press is NOT frugal - its cost (for the gallon refill) is .53 cents per ounce! The 6 oz spray bottle at $4.09 is a whopping .68 cents per ounce!

A much less expensive option is Niagara's Non-Aerosol Spray Starch - $1.99 for 22 oz - or .09 cents per ounce (the price I pay at my local grocery store). It doesn't flake either - though I've tried to make it... And, the non-aerosol Niagara Niagara Non-Aerosol Spray Starch, 22 oz (Pack of 6)comes with a really nice linen scent. So, you can be eco-friendly, budget friendly, avoid that awful flaking and get a nice fresh scent.

If I were to buy 22 oz of Best Press my cost would be about $11.66. I can buy the 22 oz Niagara and have enough left over for a yard of my favorite quilt fabric! I won't waste my money on Best Press. I'd rather buy Niagara (non-aerosol) AND fabric.

Best Press is the only pressing spray I use for quilting and most sewing. It has a light starching effect and a lovely fragrance (Linen scent). It leaves quilting fabric with a polished look and slightly stiffened body; great for piecing and finishing. It's of course also terrific with your regular ironing! Not sticky, doesn't clog the iron or leave a residue. No staining. Pricey, but worth it!!

As a quilter I hated using the regular spray starch but thought it was essential to "stabilize" my fabrics for cutting and piecing. The discovery of this product means I don't have those white flecks on my fabric anymore and the scent of the lavender is very pleasant. I've bought this by the gallon to make sure I have it when I need it. The starch is not a "stiff" starch, but it does stabilize fabric and, with care on the part of the quilter, helps to prevent stretching on the bias. Great product.

I love Best Press. If you are a sewer & especially a quilter, you will love it. For quilting, it makes the fabric crisp so it makes it much easier to rotary cut your fabric. It's great when you are sewing fabric on the bias, it keeps it from stretching when you are sewing it. It's great when you are trying to get your seams crisp but not stiff. It's not like starch, it doesn't make the fabric stiff & there is no flaking like starch sometimes can do. The different scents are nice, not to fragrant. They do have unscented if you'd like. I won't sew without it

I disagree completely with the 2 out of 5 review. Best Press is not at all like spray starch. Spray starch will be flaky, mess up your iron and invite unwanted critters to your fabric. Best Press, on the other hand (particularly this unscented formula) will not stink up your breathing area, mess up your iron, leave residue on the cloth/clothes, or bring on the unwanted critters (particularly if you are using it on wall hangings which usually don't get much in the way of being laundered). It firms up fabric but doesn't stiffen, making it a breeze to sew with, plus it helps stabilize fabric for cutting. Most of this opinion is from a quilting/sewing perspective, but your family will also appreciate that their ironed clothes look great but are not stiff!

I am one of those quilters who washes and irons fabric before cutting out a quilt. After discovering Best Press, I spray my fabric with this amazing product before I iron. It removes all the wrinkles and makes the fabric a dream to work with. Buy this in the bottle with the spray pump first, then just buy refills. You will love this product!

We have used starch for years and have definitely switched to Best Press. It does a smother job and does not build up on the iron. Gives clothes a nice clean smell.

I have used Best Press for about 10 years. I not only use it on quilt fabrics but for regular ironing of shirts and any fabric that I can use it on. It arrived just when I needed it and at a good price.
