I bought the 1/16" (.062")thick sheet for shoe insoles. Poron is being used a lot now for shoe padding...Allen Edmonds and Brooks Brothers uses it some of their shoes. I find that shoes in my correct size tend to fit me just slightly too loose. However, many insoles, even those that appear thin, quickly make the shoe too cramped. I found it is truly a micro-adjustment proposition to get them just right. After some trial and error experiementation, including buying poron insoles called Footshox that were generally too thick, I determined that 1/16" was what I really needed.

The 1/16" poron is quite thin and floppy (not rigid), but so far seems to be a successful solution for my purpose. One downside is that, being so thin, it is a little fragile. One set of insoles I cut quickly ripped in some loafers because there is a lot of friction/pulling when I put them on my feet. That doesn't seem to be a problem in lace-ups, though I still have yet to see how long-term durability will be. The thin/floppy-ness also means that they may get pulled up out of place a bit when taking your shoes off, but that it isn't a very big deal and they do securely stay in place under my feet when the shoes are on. Another product available online is 1/16" Spenco material that I may try as well.

This is much lighter than neoprene (typical rubber gasket material). It does feel kind-of foamy (as open-cell foam would imply). It feels like I could tear it if I wanted to. It has more elasticity than neoprene, but it doesn't seem like it would seal things very well or hold up to water. I could be wrong, but I'm not using it for that so I won't find out.
