I am welding 18 to 20 gauge sheet metal and this is much easier to work with than .030 general purpose wire. I would not recommend it for anything thicker than sheet metal. I started with a 2 lb spool but that required an adapter to fit my Millermatic. Now I just need to learn how to weld.

I have been doing sheet metal body replacement as a hobby for a few years. I have always used 0.030 wire carbon steel wire and a Hobart Handler 187. I primarily use butt welds for replacing body sheet metal. The 0.030 I used to build a small 5x8 trailer (0.188" thick max). I thought since I was using thinner metal maybe I needed to try a thinner wire. I am glad I switched so far. Not to say it's been a dramatic change, but I believe it's helped with keeping the welds small (allowing for less grinding). I also think the penetration has been better with higher heat settings. It's a different animal with this thinner wire. My Handler has 4 heat settings and a feed of 0-100. For 0.030 wire on sheet metal (18/16 gauge) my settings were generally middle of the road 2/4 heat 40-50 feed. With this 0.023 wire I'm 3/4 heat and 80-90 feed. It can be a little challenging with such I high feed but it's necessary to allow for proper nozzle distance... If that makes sense.

Product is fine but pricing isnt competitive. I bought a 10 lb roll of .023 and also a 10# roll of .035.
The .035 never did ship (was on back order until mid Dec) so I cancelled it with Amazon.

I found a 11# roll for 1/2 the price. Same quality but actually 1 lb more material (comes on an 8" reel) made by Harris.

So bottom line, although the product is fine, be careful on pricing.

Not much to say about wire. This guage wire, .025 tips, and 75% argon 25% carbon D had my welder actually welding. I had not even touched my welder in a few years, other than to move it out of the way. If you have a small, underpowered, 125 volt mig welder you too might want to consider a small guage wire. Well, it works with the stuff I have to weld, auto body, mower repair, auto pans.

The wire is fine, and the price was great, but the ID of the hub of the spool, and OD of my spindle adapter do not match, I will need to make a bushing. The spool is about .15 larger than the spindle, this makes the spool wobble, and actually makes the wire feed inconsistently. This of course makes the welds weird... Great wire, be careful of spindle and spool size..
