Product does it's job (so please, no snarky comments about the rating from those w/ absolutely nothing better to do w/ their lives), but for the price Panasonic's asking for this threaded aluminum tube (that's ALL this is,folks), would it have killed them to have included the absolutely necessary, larger than standard lens cap, in order to protect the clear glass lens protector or the other filters/conversion lens they sell for the LX5? Many would like to leave the clear glass lens protector or a lens filter on the camera 24/7 instead of having to fiddle w/ removing the standard lens ring, then attaching this "conversion lens adapter", AND THEN FINALLY attaching the chosen lens or filter. It's WAY too much work to essentially rebuild the entire front end of the camera on the fly, when having included a lens cap w/ the DMW-LA6 as a part of it's manufacture would've eliminated what is now a MAJOR nuisance involved in it's use.

the LA-6 adapter hood fits beautifully onto the LX-5. For me, it offers fantastic protection for the Leica lens and wards off dust and fingerprints. You can pick it up and not worry about putting a print on the lens or tweaking it by mistake. Additionally, this is a very sturdy, steady way to hand hold the camera, by the lens! Security and protection in sleek, lightweight aluminum that matches the finish and color of the camera.

Plus you can screw in 52mm filters or add the wide angle lens as the manufacturer had intended. It's all win-win.

the adaptor fits my lens filter, but for $50, its kind of expensive for just my lens filter

The adapter is simply an aluminimum ring (finished or painted black) with fine metric thread at each end. As the alternative, check "New World Video Direct". This company although isn't accurate in its advertisement - the real brand is usually out of stock and you would have to wait for 6 weeks to get it - sells for ....$5 the same adapter of brand name "Bower" (Bower Digital & Photographic Acccessories).

I agreed to receive the replacement, instead of the adevertised. It fits perfectly, and is of black color. The identification on ring says "BOWER Panasonic LX5 52mm".

I use this so that I can attach filters when I use my DLUX 5, and to protect the lens. I use a UV, circle polarizer, or a neutral density filter. This makes the camera bigger and not-so-pocketable, but to be able to steady the camera by holding this barrel is very helpful. Remember to attach it you must unscrew the metal piece already attached to the camera. After you do that, the threads for this accessory are revealed.

Having recently purchased a Panasonic DMC-LX5 I found that getting the most out of my stock lens could be enhanced dramatically by adding the Panasonic DMW-LA6 Conversion Lens Adapter. The current lens ring that comes with the camera is set at 46mm. Stepping this up to 52mm allows me to stack a few lenses on top of each other and still eliminate any vignette that may occur at the corners because of the larger lens opening. The camera now looks very cool especially when I have the 52mm ND(dark grey neutral density filter) mounted up front.

I now have to find a super slick little camera case (5x4x4) to carry my new toy around. I am very happy with this configuration and I think that you too will be as well.Panasonic DMW-LA6 Conversion Lens Adapter

I sprang for the name-brand adapter instead of one of the third-party products. I just like to have that word "LUMIX" on parts meant to work together. In fact, I also got a third-party adapter thrown in with a separate filter order, and the quality was pretty much the same (though I fancied the finish on the Lumix part was a little cooler). So spring for this if you like a bit of affordable luxury.

I have ordered this based on the many positive reviews and I fully expect that I will be very satisfied with the DMW-LA6 protector/adapter on my new LX5. Although, I did not pay $50 as one reviewer has stated and subsequently unfairly rated it "3 stars". For those of you who may be inclined to agree that this item may be too pricey, I suggest that you do what I did - check prices elsewhere. Got mine at BH Photo for ONLY $25 INCLUDING free shipping, and no sales tax. Guess if you still feel $25 is "too high", I'm sure there are plenty of no-name, "El Cheapo" brands out there. Nevertheless, I would have paid the full $35 had I not found it at another reputable retailer for a lower price. Not fair to rate this product as three stars just because it didn't dawn someone to comparison shop. Go ahead, buy the LW6! Buy it here or buy it elsewhere. You want it and your Lumix LX5 deserves it!
