The reality is that there are few options for binder boxes to hold negative or slide sheets. This one is just like the Satter version I bought 30+ years ago for negatives. (I think Satter was bought by Bessler?) I think the rings are thinner metal though. Even the snaps are still hard to open and snap. I think with age and shrinkage it gets better (unlike other things in life…)
Note that NONE of these boxes are water or dust tight. They are tighter than an open binder but, dust will get in along with other things through little gaps. You should not store these on a shelf but rather in a cabinet or box to keep the dust exposure to a minimum.
I still think these things are overpriced for what they do. 30 years ago, they cost too much. As a poor undergrad student, I could only afford one at a time. So I used regular binders for overflow. I am finally getting around to moving that overflow into some of these and, they are STILL too expensive! With digital taking over, the need for archival negative storage will remain but at the same time, prices need to be made affordable for non museum or archive users.
Seems like a missed opportunity for anyone to subcontract with a binder factory in China to make a version (but not breaking any patents) that can sell for $10 to $15, which would be a more reasonable price. Also, black, taupe, and white. Dull. I would add a red and a few other colors so they can be organized by project, year, place, film type, etc. using colors.

These boxes are great, they will protect my film negatives keep the dust free, they hold 100 pages of 3 ring binder pages. The tabs on the side are sturdy to keep the dust shut. Hard plastic side protect the pages and contents well. Unlike a traditional 3 ring binder, this has solid sides all around it, fits nicely on my book shelf. I have 3 of these, 2 are full of film, that is over 1400 strips of film, the 3rd has about 20 more pages filled in it. Not water proof, but harder for water to get in. You'd really have to be trying to get water inside the boxes. Won't protect the slides from moisture completely, like humidity, nor will it protect from heat. So store them inside

It's a bit more flimsy than I recall from ages ago, but does what it's supposed to. I'm not sure how long one of the closure tabs will last as it goes into the hole pretty tight & is hard to open again. For the $$ I would have expected a better product, especially since it is made in USA, not China!

I have slides I have stored in 12 of these for 20 years in standard archival plastic storage sheets. Starting to print now that I have time. After 20 years slides/negatives are like new, no mold or bugs. They were stored in a finished basement with moderately high humidity levels. I did drop a few silica gel packs in each box. I need more and these are what I will get.

I also have similar black and brown cases as well. They worked fine too, but I prefer the lighter grey color, easier to mark and look cleaner.

I have used Beseler products in the past, like my enlarger in the antique days of printing your own enlargements. The archival safe is good for preserving the slides and negatives that have been asleep in there original containers. I placed my precious negatives and slides into archival sheets and placed them into the ring binders of Beseler Archival Safe. I know the slides and negatives are in a good place in the Beseler Safe. I just hope that the plastic sleeves will not decompose into graphite as my last plastic sleeve holders did. The Beseler Archival Safe holds enough volume for one year of my favorite subjects, Australia of the 1980's.

Well, it's a box.

That's what it was supposed to be.

Not water, or even humidity proof, but it is hard and thick enough to protect the slide sleeves I crammed in there - although it probably won't hold all one-hundred sleeves (not that I have that many slides from the 70's and 80's).

These binders are excellent for their prescribed use - photo negative storage. I started using film cameras again about 18 months ago & this is my 4th archival binder. It's already almost filled to capacity.

Great binder box, nice that it's white so you can easily write your name on it in Sharpie. Only "problem" is that it is near impossible to open the thing!
