Works great, just as advertised!

You do not have to be technical. This would be a doable job for anyone with basic motor skills and basic common sense. Just make sure the power is off and you'll be fine (Hint: that falls under common sense). Use a metal bore bit (available at any hardware store) on your power drill to make the hole for the photocell, splice the wires following the directions and voila - you are done.

My In-Laws have a 3 bulb lamp post that has been burning 24/7/365 since it was installed by another brother-in-law in 2007. HAHA! Wrong move. So, after almost 5 years of seeing this thing lit all the time, it had become a symbol of a half finished project. A beacon of disappointment if you will.

Then the shiny new Son-In-Law (me) comes to the rescue. I come on here, locate and procure this little photocell. I installed it in 10 minutes flat and it works perfectly. I am now responsible for halving their outdoor electrical consumption needs, reducing their carbon footprint, and best of all... every time that light comes on in the evening and goes off in the morning with the Sun they are reminded of my awesomeness.

Works like a champ! Took me one hour to install without the proper tools and while drinking beer. If I had the proper sized drill bit and actually a drill powerful enough to do the job it would have taken me 20 minutes. Installed 2 months ago and it has worked perfectly since dusk one.

Worked perfect! Direct replacement for an old one I had that was dying.
I installed this to replace a broken one in the soffet of our house. It powers the stairs lights so when it gets dark our stairs are lighted.
Very easy install, loved having the rubber gasket, direct replacement for the old one that died.

Really easy install. Kill power to the old one, unhook the wires, wire this one up, hook it back up & we're back in business.

It comes on right around dusk too so it's working perfectly.

Installing the sensor on the light post as opposed to the structure wall surface reduces shading effect of shrubbery or snow drifts on light sensing. Easy to install using a 3/4-inch drill bit to create the hole required in the post (unless replacing a similar sensor). Similar to the Thomas & Betts HS525 Outdoor Post Sensor which I have also used.

Arrived in one day. Slightly smaller photocell cylinder than the unit I was replacing, but the included rubber washer made what appears to be a nice, water tight seal. Install took all of 5 minutes. Upon initial turn-on of the circuit breaker to power my pole lamp, the light came on in broad daylight for about 30 seconds or so and then went out (I read in other reviews that this might happen as an internal thermistor has to trip open initially).

The product is working as advertised. I'm using a very bright 18W (75W incandescent equivalent) Daylight (as opposed to soft white ... which is more of a "yellow" light) CFL bulb. Turn-on and turn-off is perfect (no false triggering off even from this very bright CFL) ... comes on right at dawn and goes off right at dusk. So far it's working just fine in bright sunny days, overcast days, as well as rainy days. I hope it proves reliable and long lasting.

I ordered 4 total (first 2 which were both bad, and the second to replace). Of the 4, only 1 is working as advertised 6 months later. One of the two I installed is now not delaying the on/off that is required for fluorescent/LED lights. So during the transition, the light flickers like crazy and probably reducing the lifespan of the bulb.

Low price, but low quality!

My porch lights have been a nagging issue since I moved into my house, and a source of constant arguments between the mrs and I. Every evening I turned the light switch on, and had a reminder to turn it off every morning. If I forgot, the lights stayed on all day, and an argument in the evening was guaranteed. Worse yet, if we're not at home for the weekend, the lights wont come on, leaving a tell tale sign of our absence.
I saw a video on youtube to add a photocell to the porch lights to automate them. I bought 2 of these, and installed them within 20 mins. The instructions are very clear and the unit is easy enough to install.
Ever since, the light switch has stayed on, and the photocells work perfectly, every single day.

The instructions suggest encasing the photocell in a weather proof case, which, if done incorrectly, could impact efficiency.
As of now, I've left it hanging outside the light fixture (above, not under the light for obvious reasons). Seems to be functioning without any change in efficiency in spite of 50+ degrees change in weather. Will see how it holds up thru the winter, and share more info if need be.
At this point, I highly recommend these photocells.

The outside light that the photocell was contacted too wouldn't stop turning ON and OFF throughout the day, but at nighttime worked as it should. None the less, I disconnected the photocell and replaced it with another one. WHICH WORKED correctly.
