To be clear, this is a repackage of four earlier DVDs, making up the whole of Thomas' twelfth season: Railway Friends, High Speed Adventures, Team Up With Thomas, Percy and the Bandstand

What makes this season unique is the introduction of CGI effects to Thomas' world. People like Sir Topham Hatt are now animated, and each character's face is as well. The big benefit is that it creates more immersion in the setting: while the photography isn't as dynamic as it was in the early years of the show, the fact that the characters seem in action even when they're still makes the pacing seem a lot less slow than other recent episodes.

There are some drawbacks, though. Often the CGI faces fail to capture the likeness of the old molded rubber faces, which becomes distracting to those who've watched the show for years. Further, it just seems odd to have lip sync when there's only one actor (the narrator), but the recent all-CGI episodes have a larger voice cast.

The quality of the stories themselves is a mixed bag. On the one hand viewers quickly grow used to plot formulas of characters refusing help or behaving recklessly to get a job done. On the other hand, there is some innovation to be appreciated.Read more ›

Thomas & Friends Adventure Pack is a four-DVD set containing one full season of computer-animated episodes of the popular children's television show "Thomas & Friends", starring Thomas the anthropomorphic tank engine and his vehicle friends. Colorful adventures with character-building social morals distinguish this family-friendly collection. The four DVDs are "Railway Friends", "High Speed Adventures", "Team Up with Thomas", and "Percy and the Bandstand"; bonus features include songs, bonus episodes, read-along sections, and simple DVD games. Thomas & Friends Adventure Pack is a treat for children and for library children's DVD collections. 4 DVDs, 178 minutes.

A great set of Thomas favorites. I purchased these for my son for Christmas. They are all reasonably long and filled with many different stories. I have seriously seen them more times than I can count. You know your son is a Thomas fan when he uses words like "biff and shunt". It is light. goodhearted fun everything a kids show should be. The episodes all have little lessons about helping others, accepting help, apologizing and being a good friend. I have nothing negative to say about these. So if the idea "flows into your funnel" to purchase these, I say go for it!

I loved watching this show when I was a kid and my nephew is the same way so I got him this dvd set. I read a lot of peoples reviews complaining about their faces being CG in stead of the "static" smiling faces but its not something that my nephew will care about and to be honest. I wish I could have seen their faces move when I was his age haha. Each DVD has several Episodes so it will keep him entertained for some time.

These DVD's are so great for our 3 year old and 1.5 year old grandsons. They are entertained for hours and watch them over and over again. Trains are the toy of choice and Thomas is their favorite star.
