I ordered this one and when it came in the quill was a 25.4 mm not a 22.2, so be careful of that. I contacted Green Canyon and they were very helpful and got everything straightened out and agreed to give me a refund while sending a prepaid shipping label to ship the old one back. Once I got the 22.2 it fit great and the clamp diameter was a true 25.4 making this a very easy install. I got it because I bought bullhorn handlebars and the clamp I had was a one piece clamp with only one bolt so you couldn't slide it through the small hole. This clamp eliminated that problem and holds it in place perfectly.

Packaged so the thing beat a hole in it from the inside. Luckily no bolts came loose or fell out. I got no plastic cover for the stem. I refuse to call it a quill. There is no Webster's definition that state a quill goes on a bicycle......Sorry bicycle industry. The stem/quill thing is soooo confusing and misleading. I never seen manufacturers mixing metric and SAE on the same stupid part. This is a 5 star goose neck, but the little things take 2 stars off.

Use a micrometer to measure everything first and by the way this should be by application with detailed pictures and measurements--Commonsense says a good description is cheaper than returned parts or angry customers. There should be an exploded picture that points to each part of the goose neck with approximate measurements (for things other than the stem, obviously). I use a threaded fork and the 2 most popular forks are 1 1/8th and 1 inch....STOP! The goose neck fits into the forks (bottom part) and it needs to be smaller (ie male to female, so to say). 1 1/8th fork inch gets a 1 inch goose neck stem (1 inch/25.4mm) and a 1 inch fork gets a 7/8th inch goose neck stem (7/8th inch/22.2mm).

Believe me, I have ordered lots of parts and there is always a problem. I am so tired of trial and error and doing there R&D work. And to really upset the bicycle industry....This is for a long distance motorized bicycle application!!
Share the Road!! Not the Shoulder!

Almost forgot to add:
Gooseneck needs the ridged handlebar holder. The smooth inside of the handlebar holder is unacceptable. If the bolts holding the handlebars loosen even slightly, the handlebars will move up and down. The stock bars are ridged (read not smooth) and fit inside the ridged holder assembly and are very secure. Again, this kind of mistake make no sense

I picked up an older Trek Antelope to use for guests to ride on the trails aroud Wallace, Idaho, USA. I needed to change brake cables. I also tried riding it with the seat post raised 100cm (~4in). Oh man, the original quill was short even after raising it as far as possible.

I found this quill at Amazon and gave it a try. It is very well manufactured.

I inserted it about an inch from it's minimum insertion and it's very stable - almost no wiggle. With the hinge, I can adjust it to accomodate different rider's desire for position. it's a huge improvement over the original equipment.

And it's black, matching the original.

My wife's bicycle had a solid stem to handle bar mounting as is common in many less expensive bikes. She wanted to pleasure ride sitting straight up and the old stem just wouldn't extend high enough. This stem was what was required. It is about an inch and a half longer than the old stem and the 0 to 60 degree adjustment to the top added the extra height we needed. It is presently set at 40 degrees. The black finish is a perfect match to her black handle bars and made me a hero at the end of the day. Well worth the price.

I'M HAPPY!!! PHOTO OF STEM SHOWS THE ANGLE GOES TO 60 DEGREES. DESCRIPTION SAYS ONLY 50 DEGREES. IT DOES GO TO 60 DEGREES, SO I WAS PLEASED WITH THIS. MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THAT YOU HAVE TO LOWER THE ANGLE IN ORDER TO LOOSEN THE STEM BOLT TO LOWER OR RAISE THE STEM. I HAVE OTHER QUILL STEMS THAT DOESN'T NEED THIS STEP. OTHER THAN THAT...I'M VERY PLEASED WITH THIS STEM.

I purchased this stem to solve a problem. The bike is an older Specialized Crossroads Sports that had a proprietary stem, labelled "Ride Right Comfort System." The problem with this stem is that it used an internal plastic/rubber bushing to hold the tilt angle in place. Presumably, this might have been a sort of shock absorbing system for the handlebar but after many years, the bushing dries out and the handlebar falls forward easily if given pressure. With parts no longer available for the stem, the only solution is to replace the stem. While this Sunlite stem looked a bit longer, the position of the handlebar, once adjusted for the desired angle, was just about the same. The nice feature here is that it is a "pop top" so that you do not have to remove a grip, shifter and brake lever in order to install it. The old stem, however, did not have this feature--I used a Dremel with a cutoff wheel to cut most of the way through the mount on the old stem, then popped it off. (This beats trying to force one of the tight rubber grips off of the handlebar.) Once mounted and tightened up, the handlebar stays securely in place.

Looks and feels like a quality product. Installed without a fuss. The stem needs to be aligned with the front wheel before increasing the upward position of the clamp assembly as it will block access to the stem screw.
