I ended up cutting the top end off, removing the pencil eraser and spraying cooking oil on the pencil to get these on. My son likes to chew pencils, so to just have this as a topper, does nothing to keep him from chewing the pencil. He liked it and it worked, until he can't sharpen the pencil anymore and you can't remove them. If you use it only as a topper remove the eraser anyway, otherwise you too will loose an eraser inside these. So back to the drawing board, since these are way too pricey to keep replacing weekly.

It could have worked well with a more tractable child. My son was banned from using them at school because he would pull them off and chew on the open end....which caused the tube to fill up with saliva. It also makes a horrific and loud smacking noise when used this way. The product would work very well if the person using it will leave it on the pencil as intended.

Bought these for a student with autism in my classroom who was chewing on everything. Yes, you have to remove the pencil eraser and metal holder to get this on the pencil, but once on they stay on! These worked like a charm. No more pencils, markers, ten blocks, carpet pieces, etc. went into my students mouth, only these. He chewed on them for about 3 months and they never broke down.

These are amazing for both my ADD boyfriend and I. We each took one from the pack, and for me, it's very soothing. Now, we're both full grown adults, so the stiffness doesn't bother either of us at all. In fact, he prefers the even stiffer flat end, whilst I prefer the squishy open end. We don't use them on pencils or pens, just as a fidget thing.

This has helped my son so much. He has a habit of chewing his pencil and funingers. Since I got this he prefers chewing on this. The teacher was initially perplexed by it but as soon as she realized it was so much less destructive to his pencils, earners and fingers she is all for it. We are working on getting him to stop chewing on his fingers and pencils hopefully we will eventually get him to break the habit all together, but for now this is a much better alternative

These work so well for my self injurious adult daughter with autism. They hold up far longer than anything else we've tried over the past 20 years. We actually warm a nail and put a hole through the open end to string as a necklace on a colorful long shoelace. Length is good. She bends them in half in her mouth. The reason I am giving this one star is that. It is almost impossible to get off the pencil. The eraser and metal came off. I got the metal out, but the eraser is still in it so I can no longer use this. It is for my 5 year old so I am not sure how he would be able to use it.

These pencil toppers are almost perfect. They need to be about 2 inches shorter. I just cut off the extra length so they fit the way I want, but the extra is wasted because both ends are open on the cut off piece. They are a very snug fit on a regular pencil, but I don't mind this. It prevents my son from removing them. I tried another brand that had both ends open and had a looser fit, but my son was able to push it down and still chew on the eraser and metal band with that style. Just be aware that once these are on, you will probably not get them off. I will be buying these again.
