I've owned 4 of these for 17 months. They do exactly what they promise in terms of motion detection and transmitting distance. The case is relatively weatherproof, but the electronics are not particularly robust.

In my own case, my units were installed in an oak "birdhouse" with tight fitting opening around the lens and protected the unit from the rain. However, today one unit stopped working. On closer inspection, there is a small amount of corrosion in 2 places on the back of the printed circuit board. Everything else looked clean and neat. This allowed the unit to power on, but it will no longer provide motion detection.

After a call to tech support, who were very responsive and friendly, I am advised that they will not replace the unit nor give me a decent break on only a replacement circuit board. They claim that they do not even have replacement boards. They offered to replace the unit for a preferential price higher than I paid for the units originally and higher than it is currently being sold for on amazon. I have paid approx. $3.60 per month of useful service for my unit and must now replace it at my cost.

While I'm at it, the 9v battery connectors are very flimsy and if one is not careful, they can easily cause a malfunction by losing proper contact with the battery terminals. 2 of my 4 units are like this and I worry about the reliability of the units for this reason. Bending them only weakens them further. A better connector is needed. I own plenty of 9v powered products and do not see this issue generally.

Bottom line, the product is well conceived and functions well, BUT has 2 reliability issues which severely diminishes the value for the money offered.

This is by far the best drive alert on the market. I have yet to encounter any false alert with this unit. The only down side is the receiver can only distinguish 4 transmitters although you can add more than 4. I also own older 2500 model which is much bigger and more bulkier. This is much smaller and it is to hide or camouflage. Highly recommended.

The thing worked great, for a while. Then the distance my transmitters would send the signal, or the effectiveness of the receiver (I don't know which) diminished. Now it rarely works even with the transmitters close to the house.

LATER: I discovered that cold winter weather just makes the batteries go temporarily dead. It works again after they warm up.

We installed a transmitter in a secret place on our front and back porches. If anyone enters the porches the alarm sounds inside. We have it set on the loudest option. We had an unexpected visitor to the front porch after dark and the alarm sounded. He clearly heard the alarm sounding inside the house and was quite confused as he had not touched the doorbell. I think if the visitor had been up to no good, he might have felt 'caught' and hopefully left. I think this is a good value. Have only had one mid-night misfire which was scarey but it was a bush blowing in the wind. I had rather be wrongly alerted than not alerted at all. It works.

Works great! Great range! I have two motion sensors attached to one receiver and I have not had one false alarm. The alarm went off last night and when I did not see a vehicle, I wanted to see what might have set off the sensor and saw a family of deer in my front yard that had set it off. I have one of the sensors that I am using as a mailbox alert that it is approximately 50 Yards from the base unit and works every time. I have tried several other devises to attempt to monitor my mailbox and driveway that have not worked. I would highly recommend this product.

Update: have had two sets of these for about 5 months now. one sensor down a road thru thick woods at my mailbox and the other at the other end by the golf course. the bad: sometimes alert does not go off when my wife starts her car and goes out. of course the car is cold. coming back it always goes off. one great thing is that i always know when the mail comes now. we have had zero false alarms in 5 months. the things just always work. and different tones for different zones so i know where to look. last week i thought we had a false alert but then saw a large hawk fly low thru the zone and he was the culprit. we both really feel good about the purchase and would do it again for sure. they work like you wished everything would work.

Very happy with this replacement transmitter; it consistently alerts us to anyone entering our property. (Our first one was exposed to the elements, but worked well for about 4 yrs. My husband constructed a small 'house' to provide protection for this transmitter. So far, so good!)

These are the motion sensor component of the Dakota 2000 series motion detector system.

These are great little motion detector systems, about the size of a paperback book. The battery is nominally good for a year but I've had a couple up for well over that and they're doing fine.

One minor quibble, more with the Dakota 2000 series than the sensors themselves. The system is only set up a total of 4 different chimes or tones when an alarm is triggered, so once you've got 4 alarms in place you can't have different tones indicate different areas. You CAN have more than 4 of them trigger the receiver but you won't be sure which is which. A poor design IMO.

Good range and easy setup...recommended for anybody looking for a solid, reliable system.
