This is a little dock that you can place your Samsung Galaxy S phone in to charge. Of course it doesn't matter who your service provider is, so it will work with Verizon, Sprint, etc. models of the phone. It holds the phone horizontally and provides a jack for the headset so that you can use it as a music dock station. It's also shaped nicely such that the phone effortlessly slips into the charging port in the dock. That part works.

Why only two stars?

The USB port for the phone does charging only. No data syncing. Though you can plug the dock into your computer's USB port to charge the phone, you won't be able to sync data to it. There is nothing in the product documentation online or on the box that says this: you have to buy the product, open it up, and read the manual where it says "charging only".

This is a pointless limitation, and defeats (for me) the purpose of a dock: I wanted a secure place to put my phone when connecting to my computer. It's reasonable to assume that the dock would provide data sync capability: shame on Samsung for not clearly indicating "charging only" on the packaging, or in the product description, or somewhere that it can be clearly understood /before/ you spend your money.

The second is that the Android app for the phone when docked is brain-dead. It can't be customized. It has a limited set of application launchers, and doesn't give you access to your main Android menu. It's so stupid I uninstalled it.

I am tempted to return the dock, but it does provide a secure place to charge my phone. It's just not much more useful than that.

At ~$30 it's overpriced.

I picked up one of these at my local Verizon store after losing the original power cord/sync cable, and to date I have found very little reason to complain about its performance. Contrary to the previous reviewer's assertion that the dock can take any of the Galaxy S variants, it can't handle T-Mobile's Vibrant. I daresay that it most likely can handle only one phone: the Fascinate. And that's as it should be.

Not even the limited functionality the dock app offers is a problem. What is. however, is the non-functional headphone jack on the back of it. Also, an onscreen volume control would be nice, as the only way to adjust the volume is to take the Fascinate off the dock, adjust the volume, then replace it again.

Other than that, I highly recommend the dock to every Fascinate owner that still has the stock battery. Believe you me, that's where your Fascinate will be spending a great deal of time.

This item is getting a bad review due to the limitations of peoples cell phones, not the dock itself. It works on my Samsung Fascinate just as I thought it would, however no syncing. But it is a docking system for your desktop and it serves its purpose. The speaker feature on it works great.... you just have to turn it on when watching a video or playing music. Works great!

its almost perfect it serves it purpose and it makes it easy to anwser calls, sms, or emails, the only thing that bothers me its the volume buttos, they are not reachable when the phone sits on the dock, so it kills its purpose when adjusting the volume, also you have to be careful, if you bump it slightly it might come off the charging port and stop charging, so pay attention to the blue light on the dock, if it goes off you'll need to adjust the phone again

This dock was designed around a feature that the phone does not yet have. With the next Android OS (2.2) this dock will be able to get audio digitally through the USB port, which is actually important to sound quality if you are an audiophile. Once that software update is done to the phone, this will be a great dock. Till then, it's just a charging station.

Samsung has done a POOR job on coordinating marketing, the release of the accessories, and software testing to get Android 2.2 and this product out at the same time. This product has been out for months and the OS is "expected" in December. We'll see.

Even though one of the reviews said that it would IT DID NOT Match the USB port of the Galaxy S 4G. So if thats the target phone get the one that says it will. I had to replace mine with the slightly more expensive dock.

It is definitely a useful dock (though overpriced if you paid over $10 because it has its drawbacks/limitations. Samsung has not invested enough time into the dock app to make it a well rounded one. Am assuming the app is the same as the one for the Galaxy S 4G.

The App is missing a very important component ... it does not display the current weather or link to a weather app. Otherwise it has the necessary options
- Clock Display
- Alarm
- Music

Missing ...
- Weather
- FM Radio (which the phone itself doesnt have an app for - does have the chip in)

The quirk that needs fixing ... when you move out of the dock app (with the phone docked) to play Pandora for e.g. the sound moves to the phones speakers if you have external speakers connected to the dock, but once you return to the dock (Home key) the sound reverts. Its not so painful once you learn how to handle the quirk - if that makes any sense.
