Great keyboard, heavy and sturdy so it does not move around when pushing on the keys. Media keys work with iTunes in the background without having to alt-tab out of a fullscreen game :D

A word of advice when installing this keyboard: Do not have it plugged into a USB 3.0 port. The SteelSeries Engine software will not recognize the device and the firmware update will freeze causing the keyboard to crash and become unresponsive. I found this out the hard way, after multiple installs/uninstalls and computer reboots, once I plugged it into a USB 2.0 port, SteelSeries Engine installed and recognized keyboard with out an issue and the firmware update was applied with no problems.

This keyboard does, in fact, work with older keysets that are on the official compatibility list, the list is easily found by going to google.com or any other search engine and typing in "Official SteelSeries Shift Compatibility List"

I was able to use my Zboard World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade keyset with it, which is about 5 years old. You just have to uninstall the SteelSeries Engine and reinstall it with your compatible keyset in the SHIFT keyboard.

I bought the SteelSeries Shift Keyboard so that I could use the Cataclysm Keyset to play World of Warcraft. I have a brand new Core i7/Nvidia computer. When I first connected the keyboard, the Q, Tab, and 1 keys did not respond at all (all the other keys worked). I proceeded to download the SteelSeries Engine Software (which reports compatibility with Windows 8) and installed it. The software does not detect the keyboard. I tried it on a brand new AMD system and received the same results. I believe that the board is defective because of the keys that don't work. I contacted SteelSeries and received a message from one of their engineers stating that this keyboard is not compatible with Windows 8. They have offered me an exchange for a different keyboard which I am currently pursuing with them.

Overall I would expect that the Shift would be an awesome keyboard if you don't run Windows 8. Disappointing that they have it listed as compatible on their website when the reality is much different.

First thing I experienced with this keyboard was feeling how heavy and sturdy it was- for us rigorous typers, it's a chore to have to move our keyboards back after our strokes push it away. The interchangeable keysets made this purchase very worthwhile for me(a Starcraft/WoW player). My only gripe is no back-lights on the keys, but hey- the soft glow of multiple monitors is all the light us gamers need, right?

i understand rubber dome keyboards arent all the rage right now for gaming (everyone seems to want mechanical) but for those of you that just never got used to the way mecha kbs feel and just love rubber dome, this IS the definitive kb for you.

my ONE and only gripe is that the split spacebar is annoying. thats it.

this keyboard has a good weight to it, its satisfying to type on, its durable, it has UTILITY (macro keys, media keys, powered and data USB ports) - i mean, this is THE definitive rubber dome gaming keyboard on the market.

My Son requested this particular board when we built his last computer.
He games and gets deep into some of them. This board was good because of the interchangeable key sets (we use the WoW set) I have seen others, and of course there is the generic set.
The change takes seconds. Slide a lever on the right side and gently slide and lift. The key set folds into three sections. Installation of the next is just as simple.
The keys are programmable for gaming.
Two USB ports directly on the keyboard is a great feature for USB sticks.
Overall, a very good keyboard for any gaming enthusiast.

I absolutely loved this keyboard....until yesterday when the spacebar quit working. The media functions on the side took a while to get used to so I wouldn't accidentally hit them.

Keysets were hit and miss when it came to compatibility, but I ended up not using the keysets I bought after discovering that I missed my number pad too much.

I play games a lot (anywhere from 3-8 hours a day depending on the day), and I was very disappointed that this keyboard didn't even last six months. My old Zboard was still working after two years, and I only replaced it because the new keysets didn't work with it.

I bought this for my boyfriend who is an avid gamer on WOW... At first he was not quite sure about the keyboard as it is larger than a regular keyboard.. After a couple hours though he absolutely loved it! It has jacks on the side for headphones and a mic as well as volume control buttons right on the board so that he does not have to interrupt his game. He says that the movement of the keys is smooth and feels like they have a faster response than a regular keyboard. All in all it was a great purchase. :)
