I've used this switch as a replacement for a worn-out light switch, and it was easy to install. It has three different ways to install, by easy insertion via holes or clamps in the back of the switch (there's even a wire-stripper on the switch), or the more traditional side-wire and screw method. I used the latter, since I was working with existing, and solid-copper, wires. The unit is compatible with old two-wire installations like mine, but will accommodate a ground wire as well.

One caveat: the switch has a built-in mounting bracket for the faceplate -- the dark areas in the product picture -- so it's slightly thicker. If you're installing it on an older wall (mine had bathroom tile over the sheetrock) you may find that the mounting screws, that came with the switch, may be too short. This need not be a problem if you use the screws from the old switch.

The switch comes with good instructions and a color sample for the 20 colors in the Renu line, a nice alternative to the limited color choices on existing switches and sockets. Be advised that this is a new line, and although it vaguely resembles the Decora switches, it's slightly different -- the switch itself is a new size and requires the Renu line of faceplates. The advantage with this design is that you can change colors easily: the switch/lever cover easily detaches without having to take the whole switch mechanism out of the wall. This might also make the switch easier to clean, since only the lever is exposed.

The switch is "textured" in feel, but so far has not shown that this texture would get dirty any quicker than other designs, which tend to be glossy. The switch shape is slightly contoured, and has a nice feel to it in use.Read more ›

I love the idea of being able to change the colors of an outlet or switch. I'm sure I'm not the only one bored with the basic cream, white and occasional black options. These Renu products have a lot of potential for design with twenty available colors (which could be mixed and matched).

I didn't really know what I was getting when I ordered this, and therein lies the biggest issue with this product line. You need a lot of pieces, and the cost very quickly adds up. This item is a cover only - not a functioning switch. To do one light switch, in Red Delicious, you need:

at a combined cost of $21.37 (at retail), or about $16 with Amazon discounts as of this writing - for ONE light switch! And, the receptacle outlets are even more expensive. With most rooms having at least three outlets and one or two switches, consumers are looking at $60 or more to do one room in color. So yes, it's very easy to switch to a new color - if your wallet can stand the cost. Recommended, but with reservations.

I bought the Granny Smith Apple color. The color perfect though a slightly darker shade than the wall paint, but it looks great. If you want your switches and wall plates to "disappear" into the background, these fixtures are for you. The best quality I've encountered.

These switches can ONLY be used with leviton renu face plates. Yes I am aware that the system is pretty cool, and convenient, but if you want to mount a different or a standard face plate, you'd have to change switches too. While that is in itself not horrible, it is definitely inconvenient when you have them throughout your house. Also mine arrived with a broken tab for the rocker portion of the switch, these are the tabs that allow you to change the rockers for different colors. It makes me wonder how well it would hold up to switching out.

I needed new switches and outlets to match my Taupe colored glass backsplash. The Leviton switches are perfect. They're well built and have a nice feel to them. Certainly not cheap. The only drawback is that they are about 30-50% more than plain 'ol white ones you'd buy at Home Depot. However, if I'm going to spend big bucks on a backsplash, it wouldn't make much sense to skimp the few extra dollars to make the outlets blend in and really finish the look.

For what it's worth, I can't compare these to competitors, because I didn't find any other manufacturers that sold this many colors, or anything to match my backsplash.

I've reviewed the Renew outlet, switch and even wallpate. I'm a believer, so take this review with that in mind...

it's really easy to pop off the wallplate and squeeze off the odd color RENEW switch cover -- then add this one.. BUT...

NO WALLPLATE in a switch color change kit? Leviton, comon... shouldn't a kit com with a matching plate? We've already bought your expensive switch, why not include the wallpate in the kit??

Leviton came out with these designer colors, this one matched my walls exactly and if you want to change the colors the face plates are removable, you do not have to change the devise just buy new face plates
