Before I get into the technical... the outlet is similar to a Decora style, but wider and beveled appearance. It's polarized with the left blade slot being larger. I really liked the difference and the matte finish doesn't get shiny when hit by light, making it less likely to draw your eye and it blends into the wall. When matched with the Renu screwless wall plate. The wall plate is beveled out and compliments the wider shape nicely. It is very obvious that this is a more stylish outlet than the traditional Decora outlet.
Note that you CANNOT use this outlet with anything except a Renu Screwless wall plate. The outlet just won't fit.

This is a premium quality outlet. It has a metal frame with an integrated plastic cover for the screwless wall plate. The plastic frame is the width of a single gang opening and is notched to help line up multiple outletes squarely when put in a multiple gang wall box. The metal bracket has an integrated brass screw retainer on the top and a plastic retainer washer on the bottom. Both retainers hold the included screws in place, although it isn't readily apparent to me why there are two different screw retainers on the same outlet. Behind the plastic bracket, the traditional metal bend down tabs are hidden, but available to ensure the outlet is installed flush so that the screwless cover can be installed with the outlet at the correct depth without angle or squishy feel.

The outlet accepts #14 gauge wire only on the brass terminal screws with brass clamps. There is no push to connect holes on this outlet.

Yes, I did try inserting paper clips, but it wouldn't go in - only proper plugs went in. Also, very easily. This is great for those childproofing their homes, though I suppose there's a teeny-tiny chance that a perfectly sized item(s) can be inserted. Unlikely, but you never know; I haven't found anything that went in.

As you can see, this looks like a GFCI outlet (the ones with test and reset button), but this is a regular outlet. It looks modern and elegant. I love the flat streamlined front which also makes it easy to clean. I like my outlets white and don't care for gimmicky colors that might need to be changed if the room is repainted. The matching wallplate which snaps in is also much easier to deal with than traditional outlets that require a screw. Because it's not a GFCI outlet, I wouldn't use it in the bathroom or the kitchen if your area has electrical code prohibits it.

Installing is tougher than outlets that lets you insert the wire into the slots because you have to wrap the wire around the screws on the side. To install:

- shut down the power from the electrical box for safety.
- take out the old outlet.
- cut the wires from the old outlet.
- strip the wires with enough metal exposed (about 3/4" to 1") so you can wrap it around the screws.

The tools you need are a flathead screwdriver and a wire stripper/cutter. (I use the Klein brand.)

These outlets may cost more, but if you're upgrading or remodeling, you might as well as spend a few extra bucks for the sleek look.

Leviton has designed a nice outlet with both safety and style in mind. This a is a nice standard (15A, not GFCI) outlet with a clean style which helps it to blend into your decor. I like the tamper resistant feature which makes it very difficult for someone to accidentally shove something into the outlet. Similar pressure has to be applied to the hot and neutral sides simultaneously to allow object insertion.

Having you choice of colors is nice, further blending the outlet into it's surroundings. Attaching and removal of the plates is simple, but takes a little bit of pressure. I would reccomend attaching desired color before you mount the outlet so you do not putt added pressure on the outlet box.

All in all a nice outlet that can be worth the expense if color corrdination is a must.

Renewing the electrical outlets and switches in your home is a relatively cheap and effective way of brightening it up. It makes a huge difference to the appearance of a place. Be warned though, that you are committing yourself to replacing every item, because you won't be happy with seeing just one or two new outlets and the others still old. But it really can transform your décor and I recommend it, and am indeed in the process of doing it.

There are a few products on the market, including products with screwless wallplates, like this one. I think the absence of screws make them look much better. The added attraction of this brand is that it offers a range of colors, in case you want to match the wall color, so that the outlets are less obtrusive or - conceivably - contrast with the wall color.

Don't make the silly mistake that I made. I got this outlet from Vine without the wallplate and so bought a wallplate from my local hardware store. But it was a Leviton Decora wallplate and did not fit (the product codes were similar). It has to be Renu.

The outlet itself is good quality and the price is competitive with similar products. But you should shop around a little and perhaps try one or two in places where they won't often be seen (under the sink, etc) before committing yourself to one type that you'll use throughout the home.
