My scaredy-cat wimpy dog LOVES this pillow collar! She was terrified of the clear plastic cone and managed to break it from freaking out and crashing into things. The soft "comfy-collar" type doesn't allow for peripheral vision which is a problem for her and it entraps her ears as well as snags on everything in sight because of the exposed velcro. I have a Skye Terrier (picture a sheepdog on a basset hound's body) who obsessively licks and chews. (We've spent a fortune on food trials, testing and other meds and such at the vet, so please don't offer advice.) We keep this collar on her pretty much all the time because it prevents her from chewing herself bloody and she loves that she has a nap pillow that goes everywhere with her. I do have some suggestions for you that we've learned over the past few months of using this collar that may save you time and make the collar work even better for you. 1. Put your dog's own collar through the loops inside this collar. It will look like it will never fit, but if you had the dog collar adjusted properly before this addition, it will still fit. It conforms around your dog's neck once the inflatable pillow collar is on. It will be much easier if you use a dog collar that kind of plugs in like a seat belt, rather than one that has the thingy that you have to poke through a hole. 2. Inflate the pillow collar to the maximum amoumt of air it can possibly hold and make sure you poke that little valve thing down inside or it will deflate on you. 3. We have a medium sized (70 lb) German Shepard who had surgery on her side. She was having a terrible time with the plastic e-collar from the vet. She wears this blow up collar all the time without a whimper and sleeps on it like it's a pillow. It keeps her from reaching her side no problem. It would not keep her from getting to her paws...front or back, but anywhere on her body is protected from biting and nibbling. Her own collar slipped through the loops so it stays on. If that wasn't the case, it would be too large for her 16" neck. I did tighten her normal collar so that she couldn't pull it off using the e-collar. I also used the sock with the toe cut off to go over the Velcro closure like another reviewer suggested. Glad I read that. He was correct about the Velcro always going to the bottom of the neck and rubbing on her chin if it isn't covered. Some reviewers have mentioned how their dogs chewed this. Properly fit, there is no way our dog can get her mouth on any part of this to chew, especially with the Velcro strap covered.

Our dog has been excessively chewing his rump due to seasonal allergies. He created some hotspots and kept picking away at scabs. We've put him on antihistamines, fish oil supplements, and are more diligent now about bathing him as well as vacuuming and sweeping regularly. We also wash his paws after every walk. He's getting better, but we've been keeping him in this collar so his existing sores can heal. He doesn't seem to mind it and still runs and bounces around like his usual playful self. Having the collar on seems to distract him from even trying to get at the spots. He can still reach certain areas like his back legs and thighs, and parts of his tail (for occasional licking), but the area we're concerned about--his hips, lower back and the base of his tail--he can't reach. He sleeps in the collar and seems pretty comfortable in it even though I thought it felt too snug at first. He's 29 pounds and has a 13" neck.

I got this Kong inflatable collar for my Jack Russell Terrier, after he had surgery to remove a cyst on his side. The regular cone collar from the vet rubbed his neck (it was a stiff plastic) and he never seemed to get comfortable with it on. I felt terrible putting it on him, and he had to have the stitches in for 10-14 days; so I looked for another option. I got the Kong collar with quick 2 day delivery, and was using it 20 minutes after it came. The inflatable inner-tube type collar is really an inflatable "bladder" with a softer material covering over it. The horse-shoe shape makes it easy to put around the dog's head, and the Velcro easily attaches on top. My dog seemed to like it better instantly, and he could easily walk around, drink from his bowl and jump up on the couch/stairs. It was also easier for him to sleep--since the collar is like a pillow of sorts. Also, the neck measurements for the product were accurate. My Jack Russell's neck was about 11 inches, so I got the medium, which was for 10-13 inches. Perfect. And so far it's kept him away from the stitches and seems comfortable at the same time... I'm thrilled with this product! The only issues he had with it were when he tried to eat from his dish on the floor; it's not an elevated dish, so when he bent down, the collar made it tough for him to reach the bowl. That was easily fixed, though-- I just took the collar off during meal times.
