$400 valve stem caps

I bought these for my Volvo XC60. After a hard Maine winter the caps corroded to a point that they essentially welded themselves to the tire valves. The garage was able to get two off without damaging the valves, but the other two came off with part of the valve still inside. The problem here (and the origin of my review title) is that the pressure monitoring electronics are integral to the valve assembly and like most things Volvo are not cheap. In hindsight I should have used something like valve stem grease on the tire valves before putting on the cap or better yet not used the caps at all.

Perfect for my TPMS

I read a bit about the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and how metallic tire valve caps would corrode to the stems and became anxious to try anything other than the ugly plastic caps already the car. So I tried these with a bit of hesitation.

All that I read suggested these would be perfect and so far, they are. They look great and have not corroded to the steps. I don't remember all the technicalities of why Aluminum was right for me, but that's nothing Google can't solve.

Not What They Seem to Be

These came with no rubber seal at all so they cannot be air or watertight. The threads are sloppily finished and they feel as though they may cross-thread or damage my $100 TPMS valve stem. I am very disappointed. It's not the money, it's the disappointment. They look nice and they feel nice but they cannot function properly... at least, not the set I received.

The quality and finish of the product is fine. They look nice on the rims.

The main problem is they are not functional and what good is a tire valve cap if it does not work. The "length" of the threaded area is too long for today's stems with TPMS. These will thread down the stem until the end of the thread on the stem, preventing them from going on further, and they are not on all the way. This prevents the seal material up the dome area from making contact with the stem so you effectively have no seal. Looks like I could stick a small rubber o-ring up inside and that might take up enough space to get a seal.

Too phallic

I got a set of these tyre valve caps because I thought they looked cool, but I guess I should've known that looks aren't everything! In my defence, I'm a guy, so its not like I'll ever learn to look below the surface. Ah well, I figured I'd use these on my car with TPMS sensors, as the valve stems are already metal. However, these tyre valve caps are big and they make each valve look decidedly, erm, manly, and I don't mean that in a good way. In the end, I got a set of thin metal tyre valve caps from an autoparts store.

poor quality control

one of the caps was missing the "screw" inside (the female "bolt" side that the male valve stem would screw into) so the set is unusable. not worth the effort to return/replace a $5 item. i attached a picture, you can see how two of the caps have the threads inside, but the one closest to the camera does not.

I really like these tire caps they are well made and after 90 days of being on my tire they look the same as when they came out of the box. They do no rust, they also are extremely sturdy I was impressed on the quality of the Aluminum they are made from. I have had no difficulty taking them on or off and they seem built to last. They looked pretty good on my tires and as a testament to that, somebody stole them off all 4 tires about 2 weeks later *sigh*. I ended up purchasing another set of valve caps and they're still on my tires since.
