I have a 34" firepit that my business partner had purchased for use for cooking, heating wash water, and general heat while camping at Renaissance faires. We needed a grate to put on top of the pit to place our pots and pans on, and this is ideal, leaving us room to easily lift it to feed more wood in, while the legs keep it solidly on the top of the pit if people are getting rowdy. It cools reasonably swiftly, making moving it easy. The bars are a bit far apart to use it to cook burgers or hot dogs/sausages, though solid cuts of meat may work well if they're reasonably big. There is room to have several LARGE cooking pans or pots on top, and a person handling each pan, without worrying about spilling anything.

Good sturdy product. Holds logs in place. Welds appear to be good---but time and heat will tell. So far only have had two fires in my fire pit to determine the usefullness of the product. I placed one inch fire bricks under each leg to provide extra stability since my fire pit is not on concrete or a fire brick slab. The fire pit is 20 inches deep at the base (lower than walls) and filled with lava rock....so the need for stability. Only complaint is that the product was poorly packaged and had three spots that were already rusted when arriving.

We use the 12" grate in our Chiminea so wood logs are elevated, allowing air to circulate. The grate was a perfect fit. Don't be fooled by the small size as the grate is heavy and solid. Good quality!

Based on some of the so-so reviews, I was skeptical before I purchased this grate, but I bought it anyway because it was the right size for the bottom of my new fire pit (23" diameter at the top). And I'm so glad I did!

Not only is it the perfect size, it is solidly constructed, of very substantial weight and has six bars to hold kindling, tinder and logs above the bottom of the fire pit--which we expect will add to the life of the new fire pit, and to our backyard pleasure for years.

I bought the 19" version of this grate for my fire pit a little over a year-and-a-half ago. It has been outside the entire time, and I'd say I've had at least 40-50 first in it since then, including many that have lasted over six hours at a time. Overall I'm very happy with its performance and durability. It does a great job keeping the fire off the lava rocks to give it time to breath while it is getting started. And, while it is definitely getting warn (including a couple of the longer middle bars bending downward about an a half-inch) and rusty, I see no reason it will not last at least a couple of more years, maybe longer. I'm glad I got this one, and I will definitely by one again when this one eventually wears out.

It was great until after the 5th use. The coals under it got the bars red hot, which is to be expected. The three middle bars are now warped, so the 3 inch height in the center is now 2 inches. It's cheep and can't handle the wait of a couple of logs without bending.

this is a sturdy grate, but not what I needed, I wanted a grate that would take the place of sand or rocks for a round copper fire pit. The purpose of sand or rock in a fire pit is so the bottom doesn't get too hot. Putting volcano rock or sand in the bottom makes the pit heavy and hard to move. When I used the grate, all the embers fell to the bottom of the pit, so it didn't do what I had hoped it would. It is my mistake. It does allow air circulation so it is easier to start the fire.
