I have tried everything over the past 25 years as a professional trombonist. Dried cow fat, tongue of newt, cold cream, pizza drippings, trombotine, slide-o-mix, you name it. Now I'm done searching.

Yamaha Slide Oil is the best slide lube I have found. It is so good that I have retired my many cracked and rolled-up tubes of trombotine. Instead, I keep a tube of Yamaha Slide Oil in each instrument case.

The name "Slide Oil" is unfortunate. It is not like the slide "oil" that comes with beginning instruments. That product for beginners attracts dirt and builds up on the slide tubes. This newer product by Yamaha is more like slide snot. Kind of gummy coming out of the bottle. Once it is on the slide, you will have the fastest action ever. This even gave new life to a couple of slides that I thought needed a trip to a repair man for tweaking.

After trying one tube for a couple months, I went ahead and bought several more. Good value for a good product.

I'm a professional trombonist and have used Super-Slick, Trombotine, and Slide-O-Mix over the years. Yamaha's (poorly named) Slide Oil is the best of them all. It's nothing like the cheap slide oils that come with beginning trombones. It's really a thicker, better version of Slide-O-Mix without all the annoying buildup. A drop on each slide stocking is enough to get a clean slide going. No water needed. When you need to reapply, it helps to wipe off the old stuff first as with any slide lubricant. It's what I use on all my trombones and what I recommend to my students.

Got a new horn in August, and I've been trying a lot of different products. It had been my experience in the past that each horn I play tends to work better with this or that product. I have a ziplock bag with all slide lubes I've tried in the past few months. Slide O, Rapid Comfort Slide O, Reka, Ultra-Pure, Trombotine, Conn Formula 3 and SuperSlick (as per the SlideDR.). This Yamaha has been the best. I use it on all my horns now. The lightness of the Reka, Slide-O, et all, with the smoothness of the creams.

This slide lubricant is fantastic. I wish it weren't called oil – it gives off the wrong impression! It's much more similar to the consistency of Ultra Pure or Reka slide lubricants.

Here's how I recommend using it:
- Remove outer slide
- Wipe slide clean of old lubricant. If you were previously using a different product, please clean your entire slide first!
- (optional, recommended as often as is convenient) Swab outer slide with cleaning rod & cheese cloth.
- Add small amount to stockings (end) of inner slide tubes.
- Use the outer slide (one tube at a time) to distribute lubricant evenly around the slide by rotating and moving back and forth.
- Replace outer slide.
- Spray a little bit of water whenever needed (whenever it starts to feel a little slower)

As a teacher, I won't recommend anything but this to students. Other products can also work well, but require much more attention and effort to really use properly (slide-o-mix, trombotine, etc.).

This is my first time using this lubricant for trombone slide. Have previously used Slide-O-Mix for many years. But it required a lot of maintenance. This product seems to be doing a better job for me. I play trombone professionally.

This oil was recommended/supplied when I bought my new Getzen 1060 bass trombone & pre-owned 1047 tenor trombone from The Horn Guys (formerly Ferguson's) in La Crescenta; best slide stuff I've ever used. After you wipe the slides dry, you just squeeze it on. The stuff seems a bit "creamier" than other oils and liquid creams, (which is probably why it seems to last longer & have smoother action) but I never need to use a bone bottle - even after the stuff has been on for several days - it just stays moist & slick. When it's spent, you just wipe the inner slides, squirt some more on, work it around a slide at a time, and the slide works like new for another several days of busy playing; I never have to worry about getting the right consistency - it just seems to go on right every time. (I wonder if it's got silicone in it) I've also used this stuff on a couple of students' horns that had bad slides, & I was surprised at how well this stuff got their slides working again.

It's a good idea before you use it, to use a cleaning rod wrapped in a strip of cheeze cloth or T-shirt - to get what you formerly used out of the outer slides, to get the best slide action. Also, make sure you shake the bottle before each use. (Now that I'm at the end of the bottle, it seems thinner) Once you've prepped & gotten it on your slides, you're gonna love this stuff!

Been playing for a quarter century. Best instant gratification slide lube that lasts. It will evaporate if left in a hot car, but I spent the money to buy a replacement and I'm cheap. I'm not going to say this product is better than trombotine or slidomix, but it is faster to use with similar results. I will say that trombotine is the most cost effective and I still have trombotine and regular valve oil in my case along with this product. Depending on my mood the feel I want or how long it's been since I cleaned my horn I'll switch up from time to time. This product is the only product that I've ever used that can make a dirty horn play like one freshly cleaned chemically cleaned at a shop. This is an excellent product and I plan to always keep it in my sunday go to meeting trombone case.
