This pump is just awesome. It's actually overkill for my current aquaponics system, but it allows for some growth capacity. For those purchasing for an aquaponics system be advised that the outlet is designed for flexible tubing, however,it was easily adapted to 1" PVC pipe.
Recommend removing the internal filter. At this high flow rate the sponge gets clogged too quickly.

We were looking for a good submersible pump and found this little jewel on Amazon for $55/free ship. They arrived the NEXT DAY even on super saver shipping. We put them to work within 10 mins of receiving them. The flow is rated at 1110 GPH and I believe that is accurate. They have a great flow. These come with some nice accessories that I wasn't expecting: 1) Venturi aerator with air intake valve to control the volume of air going to the aerator 2) Foam prefilter 3) Variable intake valve allowing the adjustment of flow 4) Ability to be configured inline or external.

I can't speak about the longevity of these mag drive pumps with ceramic shafts, but we have about a week on the 2 we bought and no problems so far.

I have two of these pumps. Solid. Quiet. Pumps EXACTLY how much they say they are to pump, people need to do their research.

People who claim to not get the "250 gallons per hour", did either no research or can't read the chart on the side of the box. The Head height (or height above the pump to which the water is being pumped) restricts how much water can be pumped, because of gravity pulling back on the water column... plain and simple. The chart, which can be Googled, or even found on their website, shows exactly what the flow rate is for each "foot" of head height.

I plan to purchase more of these pumps for more projects.

I have a bamboo fountain that needs 2 feet of lift and a fairly good stream of water. To see which one would work better, I bought these pumps at the same time:
Hydrofarm AAPW160 (the pump on this page),
EcoPlus Submersible Pump - 66 gph,
EcoPlus Submersible Pump - 132 gph - 9W and
PonicsPump PP120, 120 GPH.

When this Hydrofarm AAPW160 pump arrived, the pump did not look anything like the pump you see pictured above... it appears much CHEAPER plus I really don't like to be shown one thing and sold another. But that is not the worst of it.

After hooking it up to the fountain, it worked well enough. I checked the wattage with a P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor I recently bought and the wattage checked out to be 9.5 watts just as the specs stated. However...

Next I hooked up the PonicsPump PP120, supposedly a smaller pump... but low and behold, this PonicsPump put out more water with 37% less electricity!!! Again, I checked the wattage with my "Kill A Watt" meter and it checked out to be 6 watts just as they stated.Read more ›

I'm only a month into using this pump but it's performing flawlessly. Great pressure and flow (adjustable), quiet and (so far) very dependable. And it's been running 24/7 during this time. I'll do a follow-up in a month or two or three to let you know if that continues to be the case. But right now I am very pleased with this pump. Overall, my take on Hydrofarm products is that they make certain that their manufacturers produce quality items.

I am using this pump in my aquaponic garden. The pump is located in a 80 gallon sump tank and pumps water into a 3'x9'x10" growbed with a head of approx. 5ft.. This pump runs for 15 minutes then is shut off by a timer for 45 minutes. The growbed is flooded 1 1/2 times within the 15 minute period using a bell siphon. I have been using two of these pumps to flood and drain two different growbeds and have had great success so far. I started running them two months ago and so far I'm pleased with their performance.

I bought this to go in a small 6 x 4 x 2 foot deep pond I built in my backyard. My old Sunterra 850 GPH pump started working when it felt like it, so I looked on Amazon for a new one and it seems that the Hydrofarm has replaced the Sunterra as the econo line pump. Upon switching them, there doesn't seem to be any more power with the additional 150 GPH that the Hydrofarm says it provides. The Hydrofarm's cord is much shorter (10 feet really doesn't get you anywhere). It seems to move water though, and the adjuster for strength is nice.

The main issue I have with it though is the size of the threads on top for the 3 included nozzles (1/2", 3/4", 1"). The included nozzles fit fine, but the opening is too small to use with any attachments/replacements, as it is about 7/8", instead of the standard 1". I have an attachment that pushes the water sideways instead of straight up (because my pond is only 2 feet deep), and there is no way to fit it into the Hydrofarm's top opening. I have gone to the big hardware stores and there is nothing that will fit this opening. Why would they make a custom sized opening, and not offer an custom accessories/attachments?

Please comment if you have a solution, otherwise, please be aware of this before you buy.
