My 2006 TJ Wrangler suffered an electrical fire while on a mountain trail ride this year. Acrid white smoke billowing from under the dash and louvered cowl vent whenever the heat selector knob was engaged. Source was the resistor placed in the intake air stream under the passenger side dash. Cause was a frozen blower motor also mounted in the intake air stream under the passenger side dash. The tell-tale symptom which I did not recognize prior to the fire was water on the passenger floorboard after a heavy rain and/or snow. What this indicates is that the drain in the cowl vent is plugged from debris such as leaves, twigs, acorns, etc. entering the louvers over the years. This is an extremely common Wrangler issue and if you haven't seen it yet, you will.

I do not need nor care for increased airflow from mounting this intake cover and so I placed it facing forward as shown in the picture. Mounting it facing backwards *might* result in increased airflow due to low pressure venturi effect against the windshield, BUT if you observe carefully the hood slopes slightly from the windshield towards the radiator. Which means the slope would still channel rain or snowmelt into the cowl vent.

The low profile means there is a severely restricted path for any debris to enter the air plenum in the future. I expect this attractive item will prevent the entire failure string (wet floorboard, seized fan motor, burned resistor) from happening again for the life of my Jeep.

I got mine cheaper locally but it deserves a review because it does exactly what I needed it to do.

Mine is installed with the opening facing the windshield and I wet-sanded it with 600 grit, painted It with Rust-Oleum white plastic primer, and then sprayed flat black spray on bed liner to match the stock plastic better.

although I noticed zero change in the AC/blower performance this definitely keeps Debris and rainwater out of the ac intake. I can now park under my trees without small twigs, leafs, and acorns rolling down into the ac system. I also have no water or snow getting in during a heavy storm and causing that mildew smell.

so for what I needed it for, it is perfect!

Fits well and seems secured via the two sided tape. After reading some other recommendations, I mounted it with the opening facing the window. It does get tiring picking out various trash and sticks/leaves from intake vents and this seems as though it will reduce or prevent that action.

This is a pretty sturdy product for being just plastic. The adhesive tape that comes with it is pretty strong and efficient. I have been able to go 90 mph with no issues.

I installed this backwards with the opening facing the windshield due to numerous jeep owners on forums recommending so. The science behind it is that the air hitting the almost upright windshield of a wrangler at fast speeds will actually provide more air flow that facing to the front.

I didn't really notice any performance changes or air flow changes. At fast speeds it was pretty much the same as if I never had one, maybe a bit better. Anything below 55 mph I felt as if the air flow was slightly less. Overall pretty much just for looks.
