Perfect for little bird lovers!

I bought these cards for my two year old granddaughter for Christmas. She loves birds and loves to look at our bird guide books, naming the birds in them. Her bird cards are one of her favorite Christmas gifts. She plays with them every day, shuffling through them and naming the birds. The colors are so brilliant and the pictures very clear. There is just enough information about the bird on the back for the young bird-lover. They are the perfect size for little hands,very study, and laminated for protection. I am very pleased with them.

great for preschoolers; a few omissions

our 2.5 year old and 4.3 year old LOVE these cards. (i had originally bought the Sibley cards, but found the drawings to be too complicated and small for them.) after about a month, our older child has learned the whole deck and our youngest knows about half. they like to sort through the cards on a daily basis. cards are sturdy and wipe clean. i do wish that instead of 4 different Warblers and 2 different Towhees, some common birds such as the grackle, crow, starling (yeah, yeah, not native but still common)and bald eagle were included. Range maps would be great. but overall these are excellent cards for kids and adults alike.

Beautifully Done

I bought these for a holiday gift. Unlike several other books on birds for kids, these cards contain all of the most frequently seen American birds. The bird pictures on the cards are beautifully done, colorful, and true to life. I highly recommend these cards.

Nice Cards

These cards worked out great for my cub scout meeting. I wanted to teach the boys about the birds in our area. They had a good time identifying the birds. Eventually I would like to find a larger sized picture set of cards though.

10 year old likes them

Each card contains a photo of a single bird (usually male if the sexes look different).The back of the card then gives the common and scientific name, length & wingspan, and a brief blurb about the bird. For example, the blurb for the American Robin (Turdus migratorius) says, "Rather than singing to attract mates, robins sing most during nest building and before their eggs hatch. The robin can also fly up to 25 miles per hour."

This is not a great tool for learning bird IDs, but my 10 year old has fun stumping non-birders with them. I think they're better for preschoolers and younger children than older kids or adults.

Too small

Bought these for teaching aids with the little people. They are very small and not applicable for standing in front of a group.
