We suffered a two-day power outage recently and got out the old Coleman camping lantern, not knowing if it would work or not. It did work. It has two bulbs in it, and only one bulb worked but that was ok by us. When we were looking at the Duracell batteries in the lantern, we saw that I had marked the purchase date on them--July of 1998. The batteries were 13 years old and still powered the lantern. Maybe new batteries would have powered both bulbs, or made the working one brighter, but we were very pleased to have what light it did give off.

Not much new technology use these, but I have a Coleman fluorescent lantern that I keep for power outages and to periodically lend to the ‘in-laws’ for their camping trips; these have a very long shelf life, and, at least in this application, offer more than sufficient run-time.

Excellent quality battery. Ordered two for a 12-Volt Coleman lantern to replace older batteries (also Duracell) that lasted 9-10 years. Same old Alkaline technology, but works very well. I'm waiting for the Li batteries to supersede this technology. However, you can't go wrong with these.

I bought two of these lantern batteries to prepare for the next storm after Sandy, fortunately we didn't get any effects from her, but I can still use it in case we do in the future. Amazon was the only one to have these lantern batteries everyone was sold out probably because of the storm. I couldn't find D batteries either.
