I purchased this cord so I could use it with an iPod dock in my car. The dock was too small for my phone to fit because it has an OtterBox cover. The cord works just fine, and it is nice that it is long enough to extend from the glovebox to the driver's seat so I can use the phone while it is still plugged in. My only issue with the item is that it was obviously poorly constructed because after less than 1 day of (very gentle!) use the part where the the cord meets the hook up to plug into the phone came loose and the wires exposed. After this I was able to push it back together and repair with some electrical tape and it still works as intended. I hoped, however, that after paying $20 for a cord (which I think is a lot) that it would be something well-made.

This cable is described as being a 30 pin M/F extension cord. On inspection, the connector only has 17 of the 30 pins included. This cable was purchased to extend the VGA adapter manufactured by Apple. The video functionality DOES NOT work with this cable because of the pin shortage.

I have been looking for a cable that will extend my OEM iPod integration in my 2010 Challenger and this cable did the trick. I have bought four other cables and none of them have allowed me to control or even recognize my iPhone. If you are looking for a cable for a great price that works pick XTG!

This is the third piece of China junk I bought trying to play songs through a music dock without removing my otterbox case. The first two, another brand would not do anything but charge. I just checked, they only actually have 4 pins. I really though I had it solved with this one as it says 30 pins, but alas china lives up to its reputation of pure crap and they are liars too. It allows charging and will even sync with my computer but no music. I just checked with a magnifying glass and while it says 30 pins numerous times, it only has 17. I checked my music player and guess what all 30 spots have a shiny metal pin in them. This cord only has 17, be a fool, buy one and look for yourself. How hard can it really be to make a simple extention cord. That is all I ask. The phone plugged into the music dock without a case works fine but with this cord, all I hear is the muffled music from the iphones internal speakers. Perhaps the missing 13 pins may have something to do with it. Maybe it only needs that many but one is in the wrong spot. I am no expert but I do know it doesn't work and they claimed 30 pins. Someone please just make a cord that plays music, someone in a descent country known for producing things that work and last, someone that can just tell the truth.

Purchased this cord to connect my iPhone 4 to an iLive speaker system. So far it works great. It used to be extraordinarily difficult to adjust settings / channels on the phone when attached to the ilive system, especially if you listen to Pandora, as the bottom part of the phone was partially obscured by the dock. And if the phone rang you had to disconnect to answer. This is much better.

To answer some questions in advance:
1. There is full functionality with this cord. It charges, transmits audio, and video.
2. The end of the cord "locks" into place.
3. The quality, so far, is fine. Unlike other reviewers have mentioned, it doesn't seem to be poorly made. Of course time will tell if it holds up.

It is very hard to find this cable from other manufacturers which does everything when docked. Some just charge the phone, which wouldn't have helped me. For now, this is the best option.

UPDATE FEB 2015: We have four of these cables. One is no longer in use but still works. The other three are still used daily and work well. We added an Apple 30pin to lightening adapter to one, and it works perfectly.

I needed an extender so I could dock my iPhone 4 to my Audi's in-glove-compartment ipod adapter and still be able to see the phone's controls. This cable is advertised to work with iPhone 4, but a piece of string would work just as well. Because it cost $16, I'm not likely to go looking for a refund - it's not worth it. I have to wonder: is it really hard to make something like this and have it work? Or do companies like this know their cheap crap doesn't work, but that nobody's going to go to the trouble of returning it?

Since I purchased my three cables, some reviews have come in about the casings coming apart. Yes, they may, one of mine did, however, a touch of super glue and they're golden. When the first case opened, I took all others apart and glued them. Yes I know $20 is much to pay for something new that is defective and comes apart; however, if there was something better, I would have bought it. A little glue and you're fine. Hopefully Amazon and the Manufacturer will read these reviews and fix the problem, because, from the other reviews of the same product offered by other vendors, this is the only cable the works, even if it falls apart....

My extensions work great. Upon reviewing other cables on the web, many people experienced problems with other products not even working, no case issues. This cable had the only reviews that said the cable worked, so I bought it. My cable works with both my iPhone 4 and iPod Classic, on Sony and iHome docking units that I own. I concur with the first reviewer, whom helped me make a decision to buy mine. I use the extension every day in my office, currently I am using it as I compose this review to listen to radio via my iPhone 4.

For me, it is important the cable works, which it does. If you do order one for docking, glue it before using it. Put the glue around the outside seam if you don't want to open the case. Or, use a small piece if tape, cut in half and go all the way around each case.

If you do decide to open the case, be careful, there are two tiny clips on the sides that compress to release the cable from the iPhone or iPod. These clips will fall out easily. Perhaps if they fall out, no great loss,just glue the case together and continue using it.Read more ›
