I had a full-blown bedbug infestation (many dozens). I got my infestation through the walls from a neighboring apartment. So one can never truly be secure from a new infestation and needs to be constantly vigilant.

First, it's important first to do a diligent primary elimination. There's a good guide at [...]. The bugs live in the walls, appliances -- everywhere -- for a long time so it's almost impossible to get rid of them all in one try. I had a small re-infestation (one-half dozen) after about 8 months.

I first tried food grade diatomaceous earth and believe it probably works as claimed but the powder lingers in the air and choked me. I could always smell it in the air and always felt it in my sinuses so I discontinued it except to mist it into the walls through the electrical outlets and wall switches.

This mattress cover (and the one for the box spring) do a good job of locking in any bugs or eggs that you might have missed from your primary elimination. However inconvenient for the bedbugs though, they will have no problem hiding elsewhere in your bedroom and home and simply crawl up onto your bed when they desire to feast on your blood. These covers also give the bedbugs fewer places to hide and breed on your bed itself when they later come out of their other hiding places. For my second infestation there were a few bugs actually hiding under the velcro flaps of these covers, the flaps that are intended to seal the gap at the very end of the zipper. With these covers on, that was their only hiding place on my bed itself so these covers are still worthwhile but are only a partial solution.

After that second infestation, I decided to attack the problem with extreme prejudice.Read more ›

So your thinking to yourself...does it really keep the bugs out and from getting in....I am one person who can tell you, it is a resounding yes. I was going a bit insane with a bed bug issue, bits every other day and between 1-7 each time. Once it was on, I began my mental and physical recovery. It is not crunchy/plasticy, doesn't smell wierd and won't rip/tear easiy while making your bed or flipping the mattress. It really gives you peace of mind. Totally worth it!!

I bought the SafeRest box spring and mattress encasements as a preventive measure, as my husband travels for work to multiple cities and states every single week. He stays at numerous different hotels and recently got bitten by bedbugs at one. We made sure he didn't bring any back, but I got the encasements just in case in the future.

The mattress encasement zips on 2 sides of the mattress, and was fairly easy to install. The sides and the bottom are made of a tightly-knit plastic/nylon-like material, and the top side is made of a soft terry that's completely silent when you roll over in your sleep. I put a fitted sheet over the encasement, and you basically can't tell that there's even a cover under the sheet (but I use a firm mattress, so it might be different on softer mattresses in the way they sink etc). It also does not get any hotter since the terry-like fabric allows air flow--believe me, my husband and I are pretty sensitive to heat and would have noticed if otherwise. You can tell that this encasement is pretty tight-knit and holes-free because my mattress is only 12 inches tall and so the room left in the encasement created a giant air bubble after we put it on, and it took me and my husband laying down and doing snow angels on the mattress for a few minutes to get all the air out of there before we put the sheet over it.

I have not tested the waterproof-ness of these cases, as we don't eat or drink on the bed, but because the top of the cover is terry with a smoother lining similar to the other sides of the encasement, it looks like it can at least absorb small amounts of liquids before it even reaches your mattress.Read more ›

I've put three weeks on this encasement and would recommend with a proper disclosure. I purchased with the intent to keep a new mattress in the best condition possible. I found this product to have a great build quality as the zipper pulled smoothly where as other brands seem to get knocked for their zipper quality. I did find this encasement to create a warmer sleeping environment, but not enough to make it un-sleepable. It does also slightly change the feel of my mattress, as it is only 14" deep, which leaves a little slack in the encasement that will free up even when the extra material is tucked underneath the mattress. That being said, there's only so many sizes that make sense for a company to manufacture, so I don't feel like that should go against SafeRest.

I've been suffering from intermittent bed bug bites on the neck for the past few months. Upon inspection, I did find a few bed bugs and instantly sprayed my bed with Steri Fab which seemed to work well. While the frequency of bed bug bites reduced, I was still getting a few every now and then and was unable to find out where they were coming from by inspecting my bed. So I decided to call an exterminator who did an inspection and said they are probably lodged in the bed and within the box spring. He also said it definitely was not at the point of an infestation and wanted to charge $700 for a round of spraying in two rooms.

So I decided to try out the Mattress Encasement and the Box Spring covers by SafeRest first. I chose this particular brand because it seemed to have the best reviews that was within my price range. The covers were very easy to get on and they are well designed. The zipper is also suprisingly well constructed. The mattress cover was a little hard to get on by myself given the weight of the mattress but I managed it eventually.

I couldn't really feel any difference when sleeping on the covers as far as comfort goes, but most of all I've been bite free for the past 2 weeks!

Highly recommended!
