Fototec Lens Technology

Fototec lenses with variable tint technology (T-V) adjust rapidly to changing light conditions for superior clarity and protection. Good value for mid-range sports glasses

I bought these mostly for night and dawn/dusk cycling; I use my normal sunglasses for daytime hours. My quick synopsis is that these are a great value for decent quality glasses that you can use for sports without worrying much about them (like I know I would with a $200 pair of Oakleys). I like that they come with a hard case and a soft microfiber pouch; I don't use either for my everyday sunglasses, but I do for my cycling glasses that get tossed around in my gym bags.

Build Quality
They're not built like a $200 pair of glasses, but they're not $5 swap meet garbage either. I think the quality is about what you'd expect for the price. The hinges are decent but not robust. The plastic frame flexes but I'd consider that a plus for sport glasses. I wear mid-range sunglasses (e.g. SunCloud) and these feel like they're in the ballpark but maybe a little flimsier; although I have never owned a pair of open-frame exchangeable-lens glasses before, by nature of design they probably feel a little flimsier.

Lenses
The lenses are just ok. That's not to say that they're bad, but I don't expect they will be too durable; just plain plastic. I got a clear, orange, and brown set of lenses, and turns out the orange work well for night riding even though they're a bit darker than the clear.

As others have noted, removing the lens the first time is very difficult. I ended up doing something a little different from the directions. I pinched at the nose as said but I grabbed the lens more in the middle of one of the eyes and separated it from the frame there first, instead of over the nose. After you remove the lens once the process becomes easy.

This is my second pair of Tifosi sunglasses. I use them for cycling, running and everyday driving. They don't slip when I sweat! I have a small face and they fit. They don't stick out on the sides or look too big.

I bought these sunglasses for my daughter who is using them for Softball. She has an extremely small head size and they fit perfectly and do not slip or move about during play. I am so impressed with the quality and three lenses that came with the product. Not to mention the hard case that proctects them in her bag! The price was unbeliveable and I will be purchasing more pairs of these glasses soon!

These glasses work as advertised. The photochromic lenses are outstanding. The venting avoids most fogging, except when I'm forced to stop. I had a minor issue with the frames sitting crookedly on my face. Tifosi handled that issue very quickly by replacing the glasses for me. I highly recommend these glasses and Tifosi.

LOVE these glasses - even better than I expected!

I can't say enough good things about these glasses. I bought them for riding my bike on cloudy days and at dusk - times when I want eye protection without the dark lenses of my sunglasses. What I found was:
- These are super comfortable and well-fitting
- They are very sturdy and solid
- They are really good-looking. My girlfriend says I look "badass" with them on :)
- They have light-sensitive lenses, so they self-darken if the light is bright. They return to their normal clear color in about 30 minutes.
- They come in a very well-made zippered hard case with a soft-cloth bag inside.
I would buy a pair of these for everyone I know who is active outdoors, male or female.

Good Set Of Mid-Range Sport Glasses

I picked up running recently, and with softball season kicking off, I decided I needed a good pair of sport glasses for both activities (beach use is not out of the question either). I grabbed the Tifosi Slips due to good reviews, good price (about $12 off MSRP and $6 less than the cheapest store price I saw) with the Extreme Contrast, GT, and Brown one-piece lenses.

The build quality of the frame seems to be pretty sturdy, and it does seem to give a bit (it has to in order to replace the lens) without damaging integrity (though I wouldn't dare go so far as all the beds and twists demoed on the Tifosi website). As for the lenses, they are supposedly made of shatter-proof plastic, but that's a point that I hope I never have to prove with a real-world test. The earpieces are adjustable/bendable, but, again, I'm not testing it and don't foresee a real need for that ability based on my own activities.

Changing the lenses isn't super easy. That's good, because it means the lenses won't randomly come loose or fall out. On the inverse, I always feel like I'm going to break either the frame or the lens, especially when removing the lens. The other not-so-great part is that unless you are wearing gloves while doing so, you are bound to get a bunch of fingerprints on the lens while replacing. Just a PITA to have to keep cleaning them each time.

Regarding the lenses, I must admit that I am happy. I have yet to use/test the EC lens. The other two perform admirably, but oddly enough, I feel that the brown lens gives things a 'sharper' look than the GT lens (which, by explanation, should be sharper). Will have to test that out a bit more. Also, a slight annoyance is that the lenses aren't marked. The red EC was easy to pick out, but the other two are mildly similar.Read more ›
