We bought these to act as towel bars in the bathroom, as we didn't have enough wall space for a traditional towel bar and didn't have enough floor space for a free standing one. These curtain do the job very nicely. We mounted them on the wall beside the tub, and hang the towels on them to dry after we get out of the shower. The fold away design gets them out of the way when we don't need them but gives us a good place to dry the wet towels.

They were easy to install on out walls (we went directly into a stud). This might be an issue for some. The bracket on the bars we received was somewhat larger than the one pictured in the item description. They might be difficult to mount if you don't have much wall space by the door ow window you wanted to cover. They also use four screws instead of the two shown in the picture, top and bottom, and on on each side. This might make it difficult to get all 4 screws into a stud, you might have to put the two side screws into drywall. In many cases the extra framing around the window (or curtain blocks if your builder was smart), provide enough width to mount these.

The only thing I don't like about these is the length adjustment. There is a small set screw under the rod, but it only "locks" into the inner rod in two placed (full in, and fully out. Anywhere else and it just doesn't' seem to hold. This is not a big problem for us as we intend to use them fully in, but it would have been nice to have more flexibility.

I have a window that can only have a rod mounted one side so that is the purpose behind purchasing this rod. The idea behind this rod is great but it is difficult to hang and have the rod remain straight/level. You may want to experiment and practice hanging the rod (on a large piece of old wood) prior to drilling holes in your walls Do not hang heavy fabric because this only exacerbates the problem of being un-level. A small and discrete nail (as a support) placed on the unsupported end to hold it level may be an option for you depending on the curtains you are hanging.

I've now ordered a few sets of the swing arm curtain rods and these are the highest quality that I've received so far. As expected, these do work better with a light or medium weight curtain. One thing to note, these do extend a little beyond the 36" stated maximum, so if your opening is 20-39" these should still work for you.

This served the exact purpose I had but a few things should be understood:
1. It is not fully adjustable. It has only a few screw holes in the inner rod and so you can only lock it at fixed lengths. You can drill it yourself of course. But the point is that it is not a set screw (using pressure to hold) but actually goes into the inner rod and is loose in the outer one.
2. It can only be one way up. If mounted the other way up, it droops. Some of these are stable enough you can have under or over mount, but not this one.
3. You need to remove the bar to screw into one of the key mounting holes. It is blocked by the bar. Some are low enough that this is not needed.

But, I am happy with them (I got a couple) so still gave 4 stars.

These are attractive rods which solved a tricky situation for us -- a pair of french doors we wanted to be able to cover and make private when guests were staying over. I agree with the other reviewers that the rods can sag with weight on them (thus, not five stars). We solved this problem, however, by adding small hooks that the rods rest in while in their closed or open positions and all is well. Note that these rods come 2 to a package, so don't double-order like we did!

Easy installation although the base plate has changed to a larger footprint than what is shown in the photograph.

This is only of concern if you are limited in the space where you are mounting the base plate.

The previous mounting base plate had only two screws, this has three encircling, and that does make it much sturdier than previous versions.

Our new church sacristy has very limited space to hang all the altar paraments and banners we use throughout the church year. Nothing we tried seemed to hold all the paraments we needed to hang so I went online and started looking. I found these Umbra Swing Arm curtain rods. They fit perfectly in the space we needed them and were reasonably priced. The arms swing out so we can get to the paraments hung flat against the wall, which previously was a real problem for us. We could place the rods four deep on one side and five deep on the opposite wall. The paraments slide on and off the rod easily. We can adjust the length of the rod to the width of the parament easily which is a great feature as well. We were concerned that, although the paraments are fairly light weight, they would be too heavy for the rods but that hasn't been the case. All in all, we are more than happy with the Umbra Swing Arm Rods and would recommend them.
