One of the reasons I bought this particular item was that people said it shipped flat. Well - someone crammed it into a box and it made a nice "c" shape. It took a couple of days of flattening and then I began to use it. for the most part it does the job. My carpet isn't terribly thick.. maybe 1/4" thick with a decent pad underneath. My chair does create indents which turn into impressions that the chair kind-of falls into. I'm not 100 percent satisfied, but my carpet is being protected and that was my main purpose.

After reading a few thousand reviews, I decided to purchase this mat. It coes in a giant box so you don't have to unroll it. The mat lays down nicely and takes the floors form in a few minutes. It stays in place and my chair rolls easily on it. It is much more flexable and thicker then my last mat and the slight indents my chair leaves disappear as soon as the chair moves. If you do not want to spend hundreds of dollars, this is the mat for you.

My former chair mat had crumbled where the chair usually stood so I needed to search for a replacement. This one seemed to have the best customer experience ratings. It came folded but quickly flattened. There was a strong plastic odor out of the shipping carton but most of that had dissipated within a few hours. I'm amazed at the plethora of chair mats - even from the same manufacturer. It's problematic trying to discern significant differences in similarly priced items. What benefit does a mat costing over $100 have over this one? It would be helpful if the Robbins company offered a comparative analysis of its products to help a purchaser make an intelligent selection. Bottom line, I like it and I'd buy it again.

The following day: The mat is somewhat soft and the chair wheels leave indentations but they don't impair its functionality. I weigh 240 lbs but that shouldn't present a problem. The mat that this product replaced had a hard surface that didn't indent but it cracked and broke into pieces after long use. I'd still buy this mat.

Good on a medium pile carpet. Very smooth surface so easy to roll chair on, beveled edges make it easy to roll back on after rolling off it. More importantly, I nearly cr@pped myself when this thing arrived within a couple of days. Great service and delivery.

Now the bad news: the bottom surface is pretty bad at gripping carpet. It slides 'way too much and requires frequent readjustment. I'll likely have to do some kind of fixup so it doesn't coast across the room. If you don't mind puttering to get this to work, it's a reasonable price and holds up after many months.

I've been searching for a way to protect by 3/8" carpet but it seemed like chair mats are awful expensive. This option from ES Robbins does a decent job at a reasonable price. The chair mat was delivered quickly in a HUGE box, folded over once. After you pull it out, it'll take 3 or 4 hours with some massaging to lay completely flat, not long at all. The material is maybe 1/8" to 1/4" inch thick and seems pretty durable. But I think this protector is better for lower pile carpets, 1/4" inch or less. I suspect I'll need to purchase another one within a year, only time will tell. But for the price, it's a reasonable trade-off. So 3 stars for the product quality, plus 1 star for the price.

Cracked after less than 6 months of use. Unlimited warranty claim costs $20 to ship a replacement from the manufacturer and require sending a 6" x 6" piece of the cracked mat. Then it takes at least 3 weeks to get a replacement. what do I do for 3+ weeks with a mat with a big hole in it? I guess I should have checked the warranty, but I would have also expected it to last longer than 6 months. I miss my old Rubbermaid chair mat that lasted 5 years!

I purchased this item on 3-6-13. Today, 12-23-14, it is cracked and lasted only 21 months. I guess it lasts as long as some other mats I have used, but I would say it is no better than the cheaper mats. I am sick of buying these things that never last more than 2 years.
