The reviews sounded good for this one and the price sounded fantastic. How could I go wrong? Well...first it was shipped in too small of a box, which caused a permanent seam right down the middle where you would want support. Well I layed it out...tried to fluff a bit...and waited. No luck, fold seam is now a perament part of the cushion. I thought "Well that can't affect it that much, although I am defintely annoyed by it." At work, on my office chair it may have stayed nice for the first 1/2 hour. After that, and today still, I flip and turn it everytime I get up and come back to my chair. It is ridiculously flat (1/3 of original size) in 5 minutes. I think I just need to get a new chair and this cushion is destined for the dumpster. Since weight seemed to be a commented on issue, I weigh 170 pounds, regular build.

I'd be concerned buying this for a person that sits in a wheelchair all day. The butt support would not be there. Don't bother with this one.

I went ahead after reading the neg reviews and purchased this cushion.

What a MISTAKE, after 5 days this this so called cushion was flat
as a pancake and hot due to the gel insert inside. I WASTED my money
on this, so as the other reviewers said "forget about it" it's
not going to provide any cushion effect after about 5 days.

This cushion is not gel. It is just two pieces of foam inside a zippered pillow case and its much too thick to use for regular wheelchair. Also, is slippery on both sides so theres nothing to keep it o a seat and it slides all over the place. I can only use it for my transport chair.

I can understand the confusion on whether there is or isn't gel. At first when I unzipped the cover, I thought there wasn't any. But the weight of the pillow - especially the SHIFTING weight - made me pull the layers of foam apart a bit. There is an envelope of gel sandwiched between the foam layers. The foam is open cell and I'm sure will probably crush down fairly rapidly with regular use, but for $15 I'll just replace the foam. The cover is fine; I'm not having any particular issues with sliding but haven't tried in many situation yet. My hope for this was that it would be useful to my mother to raise the seat height, but the gel is thin and the foam crushes down too much, so I'm basically just using it as extra padding for an old office chair that still has great functionality ($300 of various tilt mechanisms, etc) but now has a fairly compressed, hard seat after 12 years.

To get this to work for my mother's need to be able to raise seat heights to make it easier to stand up, I think I'll order a second one and replace the foam with some closed-cell foam cut from a Pilate's mat. I saw one here New - GOFIT GF-PMAT DELUXE PILATES FOAM MAT - GOFGFPMAT that should do the trick. Ultimately I'll end up spending about $50, but the result will be lighter for her to carry around than the full size wheelchair gel pillow on loan from a friend, and won't compress upon sitting as much either. We had ordered a "cushion" specifically for raising the seat height, and it was too narrow and felt like sitting on a bloody brick!Read more ›

I'm a plus sized person who was purchasing this for use with my wheelchair. It didn't work for me. Although it appears to be quite sturdy, it flattened out to the point it was like sitting directly on the chair with no cushion at all. If there truely is a gel layer in there, it must be very thin. I had seen other cushions advertised for more than twice the price and thought this was a really great deal. But as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

I purchased this for my father who lost a lot of weight after an extended hospital stay. If he's not telling tales to make me feel better :) then it was a good purchase for the cost. There was a lot of 'medical' titling that made you think you should put out a boatload of money for a cushion. Since I don't have a boatload of money, I did a little research and found that there's not a great deal of difference when you get out of 'foam'. The gel seats and cushions are recommended by a lot of therapists and this one has generous dimensions and a washable cover. It's thick enough that it doesn't compress down to nothingness and has enough give not to become as hard as what you're trying to cushion.
I think it does the job because Dad uses it without fail everyday at the breakfast table. I'd recommend it.
