Amazon didn't like my first review so, I'm trying again. They want me to speak directly to the product. I am.

I bought this product - probably more than once. I purchased another "brand" manufactured by Scott's as well: Songbird Blend No-Waste Patio seed. Possibly others.

I was in the process of purchasing more when I decided to read the reviews. Many of those reviews were drawing attention to Scott's evil acts. I googled it to be certain because it was almost unbelievable. Scott's was fined millions in 2012 for knowingly and intentionally coating their various "brands" of bird seed with insecticide. They did it for years. Coated seed with insecticide that corporate management - and their various scientists - knew was lethal to birds, fish and other wildlife.

I will never buy another Scott's product - bird seed or anything else. (In retrospect, pretty stupid for me to "trust" bird seed manufactured by a company that specializes in poisons?!)

I urge all to not buy this seed. Most of the millions of pounds sold were not recovered. It is certainly plausible that the non-recovered poisoned seed is being sold on Amazon at a "discount".

Amazon - take all Scott's bird seed off your website or publish a warning. Your customers trust you. Don't just refuse to post reviews that tell the truth.

Very little waste, and songbirds love it! I've ordered this several times and have never had a problem. We live in the pacific northwest, and are able to attract blue jays, jaffer jays, chick-a-dees, and sparrows.

In light of the information provided by another customer about the insecticide coating on this product, I am sorry I ever bought it and would never buy it again. That said, the seeds have been hulled and birds were attracted to it quickly. However, no waste is not the same as no mess. The birds pick and choose what they like, and many do not like the cracked corn. The cracked corn and a pile of white millet hulls were scattered all over the deck every day. It is not as bad as sweeping up a mess of black oil sunflower seed hulls daily, but I still cleaned up quite a mess. I switched over to black oil sunflower seeds and peanuts I hulled myself.

Although there aren't any shells, it's basically worthless. It has a ton of millet that none of the birds want. I spent a lot on this seed and it's just sitting there...I have a lot of birds here and they just pick out the minuscule amount of sunflower seeds and the 10 peanuts in the bag and ignore the rest. I will not buy again. It's a waste of $20.

I recently became aware that this seed and all seed from Scott's was poisoned, KNOWINGLY. They have been fined by the government. [...]
The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, a producer of pesticides for commercial and consumer lawn and garden uses, was sentenced today in federal district court in Columbus, Ohio, to pay a $4 million fine and perform community service for eleven criminal violations of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), which governs the manufacture, distribution, and sale of pesticides. Scotts pleaded guilty in February 2012 to illegally applying insecticides to its wild bird food products that are toxic to birds, falsifying pesticide registration documents, distributing pesticides with misleading and unapproved labels, and distributing unregistered pesticides. This is the largest criminal penalty under FIFRA to date.

I have lots of bird the visit my birdfeeder each day. I had been getting the cheaper 40-pound bags of bird seed at the local home improvement stores, and they contained alot of sunflower seeds. The birds cracked open the seeds and dropped the shells, so I had a growing pile of nasty shells under my feeder, preventing any kind of plant from growing in that spot. I decided to try the Clean and Free bird food to try and fix this problem. So far, so good. the birds absolutely devoured it, so I will probably be replenishing more often, but the pile of shells has stopped growing. I have high hopes of actually getting plants to grow underneath the feeder now. I do recommend this product if you have issues with shell piles.

Its expensive indeed the birds do eat slower and hence use less of this product l

The mess is less however it is not mess free unless you have bird feeder that
is constructed with openings that don't allow the birds to pull seed out of the feeding hole.

So, you will loose seed yet for the health of all the birds, the contamination issue of seeds in hulls is fully eliminated.

We should know as we unfortunately saw a dozen birds die due to contamination which we finally traced back to the seeds in shells.

As long as you are consistent with feeding, you will see all the birds you are going to see within 2 weeks time. this was not mess free but a lot less messy than regular bird seed. I hated that my squirrels, despite having their own feeder, would steal this and any other food I place in my bird feeder. I was very fond of the yellow birds this seed attracts. I switched to the cheaper seeds but now my yellow birds are gone and the squirrels are still eating everything in sight. I recommend feeding the bluejays, if you have them, in your backyard with some peanuts and other items on their diet. they are a true gem to watch compared to the regular cardinals and songbirds.
