I had been looking to replace my 10*42 Alpen binoculars I have been using for about 8 years without breaking the bank. I began researching the mid priced optics and found myself with a pair of Bushnell Legend HD's. They looked good until I put them up to my eyes and noticed the lenses were off causing all kinds problems including irritating my eyes. I immediately returned them and continued looking. I found myself torn between the Vortex 10*42's, cheaper Steiner models (Merlin, Night Hunter Etc) and the new Zeiss Terra. All of them seemed to have good reviews but the Vortex was the only one with the bullet proof warranty. Once I decided on the Vortex it was between the Talons and the Vipers. From comparing the two the Viper appears to have the same features but in a slightly smaller package and a larger price tag. I decided to purchase the Talon 10*42 HD. Out of the box these are slightly larger than my older Alpen's, the Bushnell Legend and the Zeiss Terra's. With that said they feel great in my hands. They have some weight to them but nothing uncomfortable. The center focus wheel was a little tight compared to the Bushnell and Zeiss models but not too tight. Looking through them for the first time was great. I was able to get a very good sight picture with or without wearing my glasses. The light gathering ability if these at dusk is very good. Overall a great product from Vortex at a reasonable price. I mainly use these binoculars for police work, hunting and occasional bird watching. I would have no problem recommending these to a friend who is looking for a tough pair of binoculars with high quality optics.

I got these to replace a pair of Nikon monarchs that never really excited me. My initial reaction upon arrival was how closely they resemble my friends $2000 Swarovski's and after using them on 3 continents over the past year I still think I made a wise purchase. I still recommend them to people assuming the prices have stayed the same on competitors models.

Pro: Warranty, Clear optics, Fog resistance, rubberized coating, neck strap.

Cons: Poor lens covers, hard to turn focus ring, emblem fell off.

I really like my Vortex Crossfires they are about 4 tiers lower than these and very good. But these are insanely good, on a different level all together. Much better than the crossfires, just got them today, and I've been scanning the mountain side, the clarity and detail is outstanding. I'm going sheep hunting next weekend and I can't wait to take these.
On a scale from 1 to 5 I give these a 5++. I have had some experience with really good binos as in Swarovski's these are not that but they aren't 2K either. Very light and well made, highly recommended.

These are the way to go. Vortex makes awesomely clear binoculars that are super easy to use, and they have the added bonus of making other people jealous of your amazing lifestyle when you lend them to others for a looksie.

After significant research and review...I found the Vortex line of optics to be the best overall choice for my needs. I subscribe to the "buy the best you can afford" and decided the Talon HD product, while not the top of the line, still best fit the need replacing the Bushnells that I have used in past years. I called the factory and the advice from the reps was welcoming and straight to the point of my questions. Very happy so far...by far the clearest optics I have owned and by comparison...the best value for me. Factory warranty is top shelf. These binoculars work fantastic. It has a great field of view and the clarity is amazing. The warranty that vortex has is also amazing and a big factor in purchasing these. Awesome product and awesome company.

I am very pleased with these glasses, especially in low light. They ae well made, and are a lot less expensive than some of the big name brands and do the same job. Another really big selling point is the warranty. Unless you are a perfectionist or a professional hunter/watcher. You can easily spend 2 or 3 times what these of these glasses cost, but personally, I don't think you will get 2 or 3 times the performance.

I've been using this for some time now and I'm glad I made this purchase, for the price these binos are hard to pass up, I would recommend these to anyone looking for binos and can afford them. I have yet to deal with vortex customer service, I have several rifle scopes by vortex but have not use their warranty.

I've used these in very early dawn and up to the last minute of legal hunting and they perform very well. I've had game up to 1200 yards when the sun was going down and very cloudy day and was able to verify if it was a spike elk or not and even glass elk grazing over a mile and a half away in some dead timber, which made me rethink the spotting scope i had purchased. Used them in the rain and snow and I was surprised how well the image was even when both the eye and objective lens had heavy water spots from glassing. They are a little on the heavy side compared to the Razors but still a good buy in the this price point. Focus wheel is smooth and can dial in the focus pretty easy and quickly.

Very satisfied with these bino's and their performance..
