These have to be the greatest writing pens on earth. I have been writing for 60 years and I have never found a better writing instrument. These pens don't write, they glide. They are perfect for the writer on the go, the student or anyone who needs a reliable pen that comes in an array of vivid ink colors. They are perfect for doing editorial work with the use of red over blue. For color illustrations where a clear green and red distinction must be carried out. The gel technology is a fantastic improvement over the old "ballpoint" pens that I grew up with. Even felt pens cannot match the reliability and smoothness that these pens provide the busy writer.

They are cost-effective on two fronts: first, they have a generous ink supply and second, they're not much more expensive than the older type pens. The translucent body is a fabulous way of keeping track of your dwindling ink supply. And, they are comfortable. I say, if you want to fly, get a Pilot!

Can you imagine that you can actually buy these in a 20-pack? These are by far the most fun pens you will ever own! I'm a journaler, and I LOVE these pens! I can be writing along on one color, and when I come to a word I want to emphasize, I grab a contrasting color...this makes it really stand out and easy-to-find when I am searching for a thought later. One of my favorite things to do is to take a handful of these to a lecture. The notes not only come out great looking--I change colors as the subject matter changes, but if the lecturer goes down a rabbit trail, I can start drawing flowers in all sorts of colors in the margin. What fun! I do agree with another reviewer, however, that some of the colors tend to dry up for lack of use. Solution? Never stop drawing--and rotate your stock! According to the Pilot Pen website, some of these colors are no longer available, so snap up these sets now. Some of the colors are: Turquoise, pink, Periwinkle, Burgundy, purple, Teal, orange, hunter green, light forest green, brown, red and of course blue and black. The Pilot website now lists their set of colors as: Black, blue, purple, green, red, burgundy, turquoise, pink, navy, hunter green and orange.

Of all the varied pens swimming about my cubicle -- we're talking about 2 dozen and that doesn't count the sharpies -- my G2 fine point blacks are my favorite. The ink is nice and dark, it comes out easily, there are no clogs. I don't have to press really hard like some ballpoints require and with the advent of arthritis this really matters to me. Yet normal pressure is enough to get a legible image on the second sheet in my carbonless-copy phone message book. I also like them for home use. Alas, so does our puppy....yum yum.

These pens are as awesome as any I've ever owned, and they're even great for solid coloring. My 5 year old daughter also loves them, and it's so handly that they're "cap free" - you can easily tell by the height of the buttons if the pen needs retracting. An unadvertised added bonus is the package is a completely reusable, clear, bifold folding case that the pens snap into and the case snaps shut - it works great, even for my daughter, and acts as a reminder to her to retract the pens when she's done!

But just one warning: Despite the claim of "20 colors", 8 of the pens were BLACK. And despite having a dozen pen colors, some I've never seen in my life on a ballpoint (like brown), they did not include a yellow pen, which comes up surprisingly often when drawing pictures... I'd still recommend the set, but you need to scale back your color expectations a little, and prepare for a lot of pictures with orange suns. :)

If you're a fan of great ballpoint pens, this set is pure bliss.
