At about 9.5 - 10 months, our daughter seemed to be dragging on the level 3 nipples. While ultimately, the level 4's are working fine for her now, she had a little trouble with the adjustment as they do flow significantly faster than the threes. Just by way of an example, if the bottle tips over, milk will start coming out. So be aware before you just tip the bottle back in your baby's mouth, as the milk will be flowing! We got her used to the change by keeping the bottle very flat at the beginning so that it wasn't just pouring in her mouth. After a few feedings, she was good to go.

We have used Dr. Brown's nipples through all the stages and recommend them.

I needed an alternative nipple to fit my medela bottles (all bought in 2013) as my LO started to put a vacuum on the bottles with the fastest flow nipple medela sells. So I tried these nipples and they work great. Initially it does not seem to fit perfectly but if you tightly screw on the collar to the bottle and make sure the nipple is right in the middle it works well and I did not have any leaks yet.

We like the fact that Dr. brown nipples are not that expensive to replace. Also they do not wear out that quickly and retain their soft shape. Our lil guy was on level 1 for the longest time then went through level 2 & 3 fairly quickly then ended up at level 4 by the time he was 15mo. Y cut we bought but hardly used; maybe more useful if you make your baby's bottle thicker with rice cereal or alike. We never really followed the recommended age range on the nipple. We assess the need to go up a level based on the readiness signs of our child.

Man, was our son ready to move up to size 4 nipples.
He was getting fussy during feeds and it turns out he was probably just impatient. Now he happily takes the bottle and can polish off 8 ounces in 10 -15 minutes.
Just be careful when your little guy or gal is feeding themselves, because these nipples with drip and spray very easily.

Bought these for my son a littler earlier than recommended (7.5months) as he had a cold and could take very little in at a time. These helped get him the hydration he needed and then we went back to Level 3s. We recently switched back to these at 9 months as he seemed frustrated with the Level 3s. He had some coughing at first but now downs a bottle no problem.

Only used Dr. Brown's bottles. My 20 months old twins still eat formula at night. Size 3 doesn't work for them, as they like Formula with 2 teaspoons of Gerber Lil Bits Oatmeal Banana Strawberry Cereal, 8 Ounce (Pack of 6). Size 4 works perfectly for the good flow.

I was so wanting to get away from the Dr Browns bottles (too many parts) but it's the only thing my son will take. We had a lot of issues breastfeeding at first and ended up exclusively pumping for 6 weeks. He then somehow figured out how to do it and we exclusively breastfed for the next 9 months by which time he'd decided he was done, so i needed to bottle feed him again. We worked our way up through the flow levels and ended at level 4 (he's a year old). It's really fast but at this age, he can handle it fine.
