This is around the thickness of my shoelaces, yet I can hang my hammock on it without worries. Ties knots very well. Be careful which types of knots you tie though or you will end up cutting to get them out. The material almost seems to merge into a single piece where it's tied. I really wish I could explain it better than that, you'll have to see for yourself. Maybe it's the slight waxy coating, difficult to say.

This stuff is amazing. Fun fact: it's the same chemical compound as Tyvek, just spun into rope instead of fabric. They are not kidding about the 1050 pound breaking weight, I have tested it and boy does it hold. Honestly, it's thin enough and strong enough that I'm rather careful in handling the stuff, if you got it wrapped around a limb and it got pulled, it could easily dislocate that limb without breaking.

Tying knots with this rope is rather... odd. It's stiff, which helps, but the exterior of the cord is both slippery and compressible. This means that a lot of knots (like a clove hitch, for instance) straight up won't work with this rope, it's too thin and slippery. The ones that do work (like a buntline hitch), tighten themselves down under load very quickly, to the point where it's hard to get them undone. This is great for my purposes, but if you're looking for climbing rope that you can tie and untie repeatedly and easily, you may want to look at something else, or maybe a coated version of this for better friction properties.

As far as cutting and sealing the ends goes, it's bizarre. This rope does NOT cut easily, it takes way more slicing than it should for something this thin. And when you do cut it and try to seal the ends (like one does with nylon rope) they don't ball up like nylon does... they kind of blossom, like a flower. The sealing works, but you have to seal it in a ring around the edges instead of a ball on top, which is just weird.

This is excellent cord with many uses. Very light weight so it's great for hiking/camping and Spectra of course is super strong. Very white, easy to see, manageable, but a little hard to cut (I wonder why).
It is expensive, but worth it for its strength to weight ratio. Also see Samson Ropes "AMSTEEL".

This cord is really strong for its size/weight! I purchased it to make a whoopie sling WHICH DOES NOT WORK with this cord because it has an internal core (JUST LIKE THE DESCRIPTION SAYS IT DOES). Still, I am keeping it because it has so many other useful applications.

... while 550lb paracord/cordage is just fine, I figure if you're going to have cordage and you have a choice, why WOULDN'T you want something that's twice as strong?! It's REALLY tough, I use it wherever I need cordage (Although I always try to tie good knots so I can use it again) including my hammock and even some improvised 'climbing' (More precisely, descending. Yes, it's not really meant for that purpose and they DO have that warning/disclaimer). Also, since this is typically used on boats, it bites-down on itself FAR better than paracord, so if there's a chance you may use it in wet conditions, the choice is easy! If you REALLY want to get technical, there is different cordage for different purposes, but for me, THIS is IT!

This is the perfect product for a hammock static line, the line connecting the ends of a hammock to ensure consistent "sag" with each set-up without adding unnecessary weight or bulk. Unfortunately, it is too narrow to use as hanging lines since it would cut into tree bark. It probably has many other unconventional uses in the wild.

The maker probably did not envision this application.

This is a wonderful length of cordage that does not stretch at all. It's very light and compact but can easily support my weight. I got a line of 30 feet for a hammock suspension. I cut it in two with a pair of scissors, then burnt each end to prevent fraying. I use this to hang my hammock on whatever is around.

I tie an eye into one end and I loop this around the tree, passing the free end into the eye and towards a biner at the end of my gathered end hammock. This lets me tie between trees 20-30 feet apart, as long as the trees aren't too thick that they use up the length of each cord. I find that the 3mm diameter is just right to tie around a tree without damaging it; I have tied this around banana trees which have soft bark and there was no damage.

With this line I get no sag, and am confident in the strength of the line. and it's pretty much bomb proof. Yet the line is light and compact enough to stuff into the Ultralight Hammock Bliss pouch along with the rest of the hammock. It's a very light and dependable suspension system.

My main caveat with this cord is that when you tie a knot with it, the knot is hard as steel and ridiculously difficult to untie. The knot holds on just about anything, even with a simple knot, once dressed properly. I actually damaged the line trying to release a clove hitch to a biner. I had to pry it open using some pliers. The line is still very dependable even with some of it frayed in this manner.

When tying knots here always use something that is slippery or quick-release, it'll save you tons of trouble afterwards when trying to untie it.
