I'm a newbie in using ink for fountain pen sketching, but loved the look of the drawings from artist Murilo Romeiro when he uses walnut ink (we both participate in the Virtual Paintout, open to anyone). So I checked around and read the reviews here on these ink crystals. I loved that you can vary the strength of your solution, making a lighter version or a darker, intense walnut brown.

I put it into a fountain pen I got on Amazon (the Noodlers Ink Ahab Flex Nib Pearl Piston Fill Fountain Pen, which I love), and have been dinking around with sketching on watercolor paper. The ink does not clog up in my pen, and works fine. I mix it up a little at a time, keeping it in a tiny glass jar, and refill from that mixture.

Please note: it is NOT waterproof ink. And that is what I wanted. I do my sketch, then take a waterbrush (I have a Yasutomo Niji I got on Amazon) and can gently soften it in places to give depth or shadows. Then I can either add some watercolors, or (my fav) is to play with my watercolor pencils. Then hit it again here and there with the waterbrush (or you could dip a sable paintbrush into plain water) where you want the colors to pop.

After the colors have dried a bit, I can go back in and add back or emphasize any lines I want. Lots of fun to play with. It also makes gorgeous sepia toned paintings. Lovely, just lovely.

This is the best product that I have found to "tea stain" paper and fabric (and my hands). The color is exactly what I have been looking for. Other products that I have used have either given the paper a slightly orange tint or a purple tint. This product does neither and a little bit goes a long way.

There was some confusion as to this product. What I received was a spray bottle of walnut ink from this brand instead of the jar of walnut ink crystals in the picture. Afterwards I realized the description was for the spray bottle, I received a refund very quickly.
