I love this radio and it is my secound one in 2 years, not because it's bad but because it's good. I bought the older modle last year for my boat then sold my boat this with it on it. It made a good selling point to the buyer. So this year I bought a new boat and went looking for this ship to shore again and they had this newer model so I bought it. I love having the red what I call the panic button it makes myself and people on board feel much safer. I explain to people that come on board if anything happens hit the panic button and rescure is on it's way. The product is also feels heavy duty well built and comes with mounting hardware. It's also easy to install and use. I would buy it again in a hart beat.

I am a owner of several commercial fishing boats.. i can tell you that these radios arent as good as they used to be.
especially this model. all of my captains are complaining that the transmitting range of this radio is 1 to 2 miles even at 25watts but they recieve very well tho 20 miles give or take. had to recall all of them and replace them with standard horizons radio.

I installed the radio on my boat a couple of weeks ago and found installation simple and easy. I have had the opportunity to use the radio this past weekend and it performed flawlessly. I recommend this radio for the average weekend boater.

My 6 year old Uniden VHF Radio finally died when the microphone cord broke at the radio. I bought this radio because it is the same size of the old one and fit into the same hole (permanently mounted in my center console).

The radio is obviously meant to be mounted overhead because the microphone connection at the radio is pointed downward and CANNOT BE MOVED. That's where/why my old one failed. It's mounted near the helm in my center console and I pull UP on the mic when transmitting. I wish that the mic cord would swivel at the radio or at least allow me to change its position based on how/where it's mounted. Mind you... My last one lasted for 6 years so for the price... I figure I got my money's worth and this one appears to be at least as tough.

I installed the radio and, following the isntructions and those included with my Garmin GPS Chartplotter I wasn't able to get the units to "talk" to one another using NMEA so that the DSC would work.

I called my mechanic who, using the same instructions, hooked it all up in about 20 minutes for just a few bucks. The problem was apprently USER DEFECT rather than anything related to the product or the manual.

Now that it's all hooked up I was able to test it with the USCG who immediately responded to my "Test Message." DSC provides some real peace of mind for safety and some really cool options for calling others.

I tested the voice calling and everyone I talked to commented on how much clearer it sounds compared to my old radio (same antenna) and they all sound a whole lot more clear to me!

The display is a little hard to read but once again... That might just be my old trifocal wearing eyes.

While it's not "perfect" I'm pleased with this radio for the price!

Overall this is a good radio and a good price. It doesn't come with a flush mount, though, and Uniden doesn't make a frame style flush mount for it. The only mount they make for this radio is a pair of universal metal ears. So, if you're replacing on old radio with this one or don't cut the hole to the exact size of the radio you're **** out of luck.

Less than a year later and the plastic button that holds the handset in the clip broke off. This VHF is pretty much used in flat clam water and we handle it very gently. The part isn't available online and every support number I've called I've waited on hold forever. I'm just going to go to a hardware store and fix it myself even though it's still under warranty. That easier than replacing it with the same poorly designed part or dealing with their non existent support.

Takes a licking and keeps on ticking! I have it on my Carolina Skiff. It gets rained on weekly, salt spray (including the front, back, top, wires...everything) it does great great. It transmits very far, tested and loud and clear every time. it gets no engine noise interferance ever. I get multiple weather channels in my area. 1 reviewer said it didnt have an external speaker option. It does, the black and red wire out of the back is the hookup, it does not have a phono cable out but I wouldn't want that as it's an entry point for water. I've been this thing up pretty good and it never quit, ever!
