Amazing improvement of flac, mp3 and streaming files. I compared 4 different units and settled on this one, I'm no audiophile but I care about the details of sound and warmth. For my taste, I was looking for the warm sound, something that resembled the old fashion analog amplifiers. This met my need. I have been a fan of Marantz amplifiers since my teen years, I have some of the vintage amps from 70s, one in my garage and another at the workbench, and I really enjoy the analog sound of those amps compared to my 2 year old Marantz SR6006 receiver in my living room (don't get me wrong I love the SR6006 for the movies, but for pure analog music I enjoy the old amps).

The second was the Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100, for most part the two sound very close and you can't go wrong with either. DacMagic was bit too bright and lacked the warmth I was looking for. DacMagic has one big advantage in that it can work with 24-bit/192kHz files, but I chose to go with the sound preference over the 24bit rate and I figured by the time I have a collection of 24bit files, I'll upgrade to the new version of Arcam irDac (right now my budget was to stay under $500.

The third was Parasound Zdac, which I thought was the one I was going to go for based on the review from Hometheatrereivew magazine. But it was the worst of the three in my opinion, there was just no life to it, sounded flat and nothing that said wow I really hear the improvement of these digital files, it was very thin and digital sounding.

I have been very pleased with Arcam for good audiophile equipment and have purchased two excellentintegrated amplifiers, a headphone amplifer that connects from my laptop, and and recently tried the Arcam R Blink. The bluetooth did not have good range, faded in and out, and I sent it back.

The Arcam rDackKW has two outstanding features that work for my needs. When a USB cable is connected to the laptop and the rDacKW, the music is enhanced through a conversion process that enhances the nuances and recreates subtle sounds lost in the MP-3 mode. The result is CD quality without the harhness that some CD's have, especially in the higher range.

But to accomplish wireless capability in a simple way, I purchased the the Arcam R Wave adapter (to be reviewed soon) which connects through a USB and pairs with the rDackKW unit. The results to date are outstanding. The signal is excellent at a distance of more than 20 feet, even with a heavy door closed between the units. Thus, I can control my music from the Apple laptop in another room. This method does not work with an I-phone, I-Pad, etc. I am sure there are some excellent Bluetooth connecters that can solve that problem.

In summary, the ARCAM rDacKW does everything I want, and as usual, the quality and sound are outstanding for the money spent. The good news for audiophiles is that costs are dropping, the equipment keeps improving, and wireless is a reality.

From a hifi nuts perspective, the wireless Arcam rDac it just the cat's meow.

I consider it to have no sonic signature, just music that's smooth and true to the recording.

I use a netbook and surf the web and listen to my ripped music collection. With my whole collection at my finger tips, it is really enjoyable.
This rDac is one of my top gear purchases ever! Big fun factor!
Also, it's enjoyable to hear Youtube video and news too.
Another cool thing is that when my wife want to play music with her laptop, all she has to do is plug in the rWave USB transmitter to her laptop, and she's good to go!

A six star product from a great company.
