The idea for this toy is wonderful, granted cats love chasing movements. But the actual product, is a real piece of crap. You clip on the little hidden mouse and it moves underneath the round plastic thing. But god forbid your cat actually touches it. The motor sticks making an awful and loud noise, as you can only assume, then the little mouse you clipped on falls off leaving the toy to burn out or burn the batteries. If you have more than one cat, Baddd toy. if you have a cat that likes to pounce, and stay on its prey. Badddd toy. If you have a cat thats skiddish with loud noises, baaaddd toy. If you don't have money to just blow.. Badddd TOY. I actually didn't even buy this one. I bought a more expensive version. But i got this one. Then was notified saying that the more expensive toy was no longer being made because of so many malfunctions etc. Now, I bought a more expensive one, that doesn't work. So why send me a cheaper version, that i could of paid LESS for, thinking it would work?? it doesn't. Now! once they come out with a toy that has a motor that can take a tiny cat sized beating.. then maybe this product will work someday. i DO NOT recommend paying anymore than $10 for this product EVER. Unless you're a dead millionaire that left all your assets to your cat. Its pointless and a waste of money.

I really wish I could give the Petlinks System Pure Commotion Electronic Activity Cat Toy a 5-star rating. It was fabulous, absolutely wonderful toy that our cat really, really loved.

For less than 24 hours.

The plastic arm (part C in instructions, and referenced to in other reviews here on Amazon) broke due to the cat playing with it (which really should be expected for a cat toy). Now it is totally useless.

I called the company to see about buying a replacement arm. After all, my cat broke it, and it wouldn't be fair to have Amazon, PetCo (where I purchased mine) or any other company to replace or refund the entire item. Not to mention that I planned on buying several replacement arms, as I'm sure my cat would break another if given the opportunity. Unfortunately, they don't carry or offer any replacement parts. My only option was to replace the entire unit. Knowing that it might not last 24 hours, that just isn't worth it. Which is really sad since my cat really loved it.

Bottom line: As much as I hate to say it, I have to strongly recommend against buying this product until the company offers replacement parts.

Pros: Fantastic cat toy that really captures the attention of (at least younger) cats

Cons: Fragile enough that a kitten can break it, with no options for replacement parts

I bought this toy for my six-month-old kitten after reading a favorable review in "Catnip" magazine. It is good quality and was easy to put together. I like the fact that it has several speeds, although I find the "random" speed not too different from "slow."

My kitten loves the toy. He comes running when I turn it on (it's a bit noisy, by the way--I wonder why the makers couldn't fix the soft grinding noise the motor makes). He plays with it like crazy, but he very quickly learned to dig under the cloth to find the moving part--and he repeatedly "breaks" the hidden mouse off of its connector. It's easy to put back on, but he breaks it right off again. It's very annoying for me to have to keep getting up to fix the hidden piece, when otherwise he would play with this toy for long periods without any supervision.

I plan to try some tape or maybe even superglue to see if I can keep the mouse attached to the motor. I don't want to give the toy a bad review, because I doubt every cat or kitten will be as obsessed as mine is with breaking things. :-) As long as the "mouse" stays undercover, this is a very nice kitty toy.

I've returned two of these now: neither could hold a charge for more than a few seconds. The first was dead upon arrival, and couldn't muster enough juice to move at all. The second initially ran for about 10 seconds. Then 5. After about the third charge, it too didn't run at all. They claim that it will run for 10 minutes on a full charge. I have yet to see anything that would suggest this isn't a complete lie.

Other online reviews reveal that DOA units seem to be the norm. I have yet to read a review where the thing actually worked. The Cheese Chasers just don't chase anything. I'm shocked they're sold at all, considering how many returns they must be getting. Even the Petlinks listed e-mail address bounces as the mailbox is full.

And that's not even getting into how amazingly difficult it is to get the mouse onto or off of the stand. Or how poor the controller feels in your hand. Or how hard it is to flip the antenna out. Those normally major design concerns are secondary in comparison with the whole not-working thing.

It is also sold under the Runaway Rascal name in the SmartyKat line.

I purchased "UnderCover Mouse" from EntirelyPets.com (It was supposed to be $18 or $20 and I can't remember if there was supposed to be free shipping). What I got INSTEAD was this piece of crap AND they charged me more money! How do these companies get away with this stuff?! I was charged $25.99 + $4.95 shipping for a total of $30.94. My one-year old kitty (who chases EVERYTHING) had no interest in this device. With was good. Because even without a cat chasing it, the little mouse (which is hidden underneath the VINYL PLASTIC (not cloth) sheet ... the wand with the hidden mouse fell off 3 times in the first 10 minutes. If my kitty had chased it ... it would have fallen off faster.

You access the batteries from a TINY screw that is too small for most household philip's screw drivers and slightly too big for those "eye glass" screw drivers ... but eye glass is what I had to use to open the battery compartment. Of course, trying to do this every time the battery died would be obnoxious - so I just taped it in place after inserting the batteries (with scotch tape). The good news is that although the mouse wand falls off on it's own, my scotch tape has held!

Oh. And did I mention the motor is loud and distracting. Between the motor, the "hidden" mouse (that keeps falling off on it's own) running underneath vinyl (that sticks up and obscures movement) ... well #fail!

Don't buy this piece of crap. Apparently they sell the original (as seen on tv) version in PetsMarts or PetCo ... so go there. It will be cheaper and no shipping and you'll actually know what you ended up with.
